So looking into the 357 muffler I see a bump out on the middle baffle coming from the front and pretty much center top? I was going to drill a hole on the outside right corner and through this indent and install a tube like the am mufflers? You guys think this is a good idea?

I think it's a terrible idea. I think you should "was going to drill a hole on the outside right corner and through this indent and install a tube like the am mufflers?"[emoji6]
There's a few options, all of them are ok. Do it any way that works for you. I prefer the deflector over tubes. Not sure why, I think it's aesthetics. Both will get you what you want.

I'm sure the deflector is a much easier way. Now putting the deflector before or after the baffle?
Would before the baffle relieve all the pressure out the new vent? And decrease volume out the second (original) port? Or am I looking way to into this and just drill away lol

Over thinking it a bit. I like to use the front chamber, so I burn out the baffle with a cutting torch. But placing the 2nd port in the rear chamber seems to work as well. Just do it.

Ok so here are some pictures of the muffler mod THANKS to RED97 (joe) for completely hooking me up with some great deflectors he makes.

Took off the limiters and adjusted it till it four stroked and backed it down a hair. I want to get a tach to adjust to rpms, any recommendations?

No not at all, literally a hair. Its still four stroking just cleaned up a tiny tiny bit.

Looks nice, Good thing the little deflector found its way in your pack ;)

Real good thing, I wanted to use the larger one, I trimmed it and still was too.large for this unless I trimmed it completely and welded it right along in the edge of it.
I have a Stihl ms441, you think the larger one would be good on that, or is it a dual port already???

Sounds like a old rm80 lol. Has a nice pop to it

Question: can you relieve the muffler of too much back pressure and effect the performance of the motor?

years ago brian did some testing on an 026 that many base their mods on. on the 026 the sweet spot for fuel consumption and topend power was just around 85% equal to the port size or 100% didn't show much gain. 125% plus had a small increase in peak power but did cause an increase in fuel use and I believe idle quality.

on a jons 670 I built, the front of the muffler had little left. It idled and ran great. no prob

I tried a similar mod on a 262 and it was erratic idle was not very good and I don't feel I gained as much as I thought.
I completely removed the front plate on the muffler. I put the plate back and liked it better.

I don't know if I have helped basically maybe yes and maybe no.
