I have the opportunity to pick up a 390 motor for $100. Iwas wondering if I can stuff that motor in my 310? The 310 works fine, but I use my 361 and never use the 310. I was hoping to use the 390 for milling with a Alaskan mill.

Would the 390 be ok for milling? The biggest trees we have here are no bigger that 30" diameter.

Thanks

you can put the 390 into the 310 no problem. id be looking for an 066/660 for milling that size wood maybe even a 084/088. i dont do any milling but the 390 wont be much of a saw for stuff that size.

If your 310 piston/cyl was in good shape, throw it up on e-bay, you will get the money to buy the 390 piston/cyl.

Milling is extrememly hard on a saw. I would not use a 390 to mill. I would look for an older 075-076 or 045-056 something with low end torque to use for milling. I don't think the oiler would handle it either.

OK, thanks for the replies. I will try and find an 066 or 660 or something similar. I don't plan on milling all day, but would like to make some decent posts and such. I normally have a friend come in with a bandsaw mill to mill boards and lumber. The chainsw mill is just for making posts and beams.

Thanks again. I guess I will pass on the 390 motor.
