found a 394,havent seen in yet, the guy says its in good condition .what is it worth? hes asking 500.and what year did they quit making them? thanks for your help

In regards to how easy they are to work on, I don't think anyone sells aftermarket cylinders for them. I think a 395 cylinder would fit, but would require intake and carburetor modifications. Something to think about. Other than that I think they share a lot of parts with the 395.

The value of any particular saw is arbitrary, and dependent on to many factors. If it's a good deal in your estimation, then ultimately that's all that matters.

Here's some reading material, and a site group that are familiar with this particular model.

I've done plenty of work on the 394's and currently own three. Its true that AM cylinders aren't available for the 394, but its highly unlikely you'll ever need one. Even if you do burn one up, I've always have had good luck cleaning those cylinders with muriatic acid and elbow grease. Don't worry about it unless you plan on milling with it, milling is very stressful on any saw. The majority of the aftermarket cylinders are very poorly made anyway, I avoid them.

The value is hard to determine, since condition is so important, but I'll throw in my 2 cents in anyway...if the saw is in very clean condition with no issues, $500 would be a great price.

I believe the last year for the 394 is 2000, but ye 'ol Sawtroll might correct me on that...

I agree with Skippy and Jon. And i know I would grab it, because every timber faller I ever ran inot who ran them, said they were one of the very best.
