Now where were we? Any one got a plausible explanation as to why a 24" bar would be slower than a 20 or a 28??? I like 24" bars! Especially the wide nose ones.
I prefer the 28" over a 24", glad to see the run cooler and faster. But even if they didn't I would still prefer the 28"

Think about it. The longer the bar, the more metal that's in it. It's going to take more heat to get it up to the same temp. The heat source isn't changing here. It's also going to dissipate heat quicker than a smaller bar. It can't help but be cooler in a short endurance test.
Agree. Certainly prolonged cutting in high heat, with dull chain, or gritty conditions (such as stumping) is where the lesser amount of oil would come into play on a longer bar.

I will keep the long bar and stand next to the pile instead of in it

Heres the real difference between 24" and 28"

If you can spring the dough for a 28" light bar over 24" its literally a no brainer...if thats an issue for anyone you gotta do a little work on your technique .

My back prefers a 32 inch light bar over the 28 ,less bending over i guess ,out here we use our body height to measure what bar we run ,shorter guys get by with a 28 ,i tried 36 but the tip hits the dirt too much

TRX - how tall are you ?

I'm 6'1 - I like the 30-32" lights

I'm selling most of the bars from this test...

here is the 36" bar comparison - http://www.arboristsite.com/community/threads/36-bar-comparison.273078/

I compiled all the stats from all my bar tests. The main idea was to test the different bars for xyz length on the same day in same wood. These tests were done on different days with different saws different wood and obvious different bars and chains. So really can only compare 24" bars with other 24" bars. 28" bars with other 28" bars. For example the day I did the 32" comparison it was HOT!
