Have owned many muscle saws but still no American made ones. Interested in saws from the 70/80s. Mcculloch 797 and CP/SP125 or Homelites like the 650/750. No gear drive though. Looking for speed (rpm). Let me know what you have? Thanks.

Homelite 750 & Speed doesn’t belong in the same discussion.

Great saws, but fast they aren’t.

I liked that Japanese muscle he had :sweet:.
I guess fast in 50" wood may be a better way to state it lol.

Everything I run these days of that size gets compared to it & Nephew Johnny Red’s or Uncle Lee’s 125s.

Nothing else comes close except for Ported 88s & Ported 090s.

That’s how those Echos & McCullochs came out of the box.

Those 166 Dollys are nice too: especially Uncle Lee’s Big Bore.

Haven’t seen a 750 run in person but looked impressive in videos online with a “turbo” like whistle to it. What rpm does a Mcculloch 125 run at, stock? I know the 101 cart ones are fast.

I’ll be honest my Homelite 750 was quite a bit more impressive than my SP125 stock for stock. Haven’t had a chance to run my 101 kart saw to compare just yet.

125's are better work saws with,
long, 50+ inch, bars than 750's. The 750 has more speed, especially having the WB carbs. Put a WB on a 125 and see what happens? The 125 has more torque which is much better for long bar, old growth, work. The 750 performs much more like an 088 than an old school saw. I found the 750 to be a good & fast 36 - 42 inch bar saw. But to me, I'd much prefer a "P" series 6 cube for those bar lengths in that era.

Did you checkout Facebook to see how these saw cut. Some have torque but no speed. Checkout buckinbillrays old muscle saws there reworked I think.
