I'm trying to learn about matching appropriate truck size to weight load. I understand that many of you were worried that the OP's truck was way overloaded with that 4620 lbs of wood, and that he might not be able to stop in time or that the wood could cause a tragedy by crashing forward into the cab.
So the question is: If money were no object, what kind of truck WOULD you use to very safely haul 4,620 lbs of wood? I'm not trying to start a riot here, I'm just curious about choosing the right vehicle for the right payload.
I'll also google this subject for a calculator.
IMHO, 4620 lounds is in the realm of a single wheel 3/4 ton or 1 ton PU with full floating axles and E rated tires. I've never heard mine say "Oswald' I think you've gone to far this time." She will bellar , snort and stamp around looking for good footing but has yet to shudder, groan and give up.
Part of the key to stopping safely is to have enough weight on the steering axles to keep them from sliding when coming to a stop. Another part of it is to have brakes capable of dissapating enough heat that they don't fade while you are trying to keep the engine from overrevving.
