I'm trying to learn about matching appropriate truck size to weight load. I understand that many of you were worried that the OP's truck was way overloaded with that 4620 lbs of wood, and that he might not be able to stop in time or that the wood could cause a tragedy by crashing forward into the cab.

So the question is: If money were no object, what kind of truck WOULD you use to very safely haul 4,620 lbs of wood? I'm not trying to start a riot here, I'm just curious about choosing the right vehicle for the right payload.

I'll also google this subject for a calculator.

IMHO, 4620 lounds is in the realm of a single wheel 3/4 ton or 1 ton PU with full floating axles and E rated tires. I've never heard mine say "Oswald' I think you've gone to far this time." She will bellar , snort and stamp around looking for good footing but has yet to shudder, groan and give up.

Part of the key to stopping safely is to have enough weight on the steering axles to keep them from sliding when coming to a stop. Another part of it is to have brakes capable of dissapating enough heat that they don't fade while you are trying to keep the engine from overrevving.

It's not a Commercial MV if it's not in commerce. Thus outside the enforcement of the FMCSAs. Definition of a Comm MV is over 10,000 lbs (combination) AND in commerce. man your wrong here in ny now they go after joe homeowner and how do i now this one of my tennets is the top dot cop four the city i live in they love it your looking at $2000 to $4000 in fines+ impound every state is different on the back roads its not feds it go under local pd tom trees:cheers:

The D.O.T MVI would have to prove that the vehicle is being used for a business and not just personal use getting firewood. Say you had a trailer and truck combo loaded to over 10000lbs combined with 3 string trimmers two scags and a crap load of brooms chances are that you will not be able to convince him it is for personal use. However I do recommend that you always take the tire weight carrying capacity add them together and just at least make sure it will carry the GVWR. Last I heard if you are over weight and found to be using the vehicle for commercial use they can fine you over weight from the day of registration to date (ouch). NYSDOT is not going after Joe homeowner they are going after the guy that carries a dozer with his 1ton diesel and endangers us all. Bottom line just be safe..

your so wrong its not funny no form will help you come down to my town in a pick up like that and you will see. like i posted before the city of glen cove has 6 dot certified cops they have a new truck with scales they 24/7 the next village over old brookville has a new truck to that one was$200.000 its not just the state any more its all the local towns and cities like posted the cops are my friends and some rent from me around here now its like the wild west a pick up can bring in $3000 to $5000 in cash tom trees:sword:

Dot

Man. If i got pulled over hauling that id probably use excuse #99. "Oh that thing! Thats was my sister-in Laws baby carriage."

Here is CT, if the officer (DOT, State trooper, City or Town officer) feels your car is unsafe they can have you off the road faster than you think. Needless to say they can and sometime do vehicle safety checks if they feel you are endangering yourself and others, do to the vehicle conditions.

They have been known to break :censored: for window tints just to break :censored: (excuse to pull u over and check u out). Pulled over my father for his tints (they were legal), just an excuse to stop and check things out (put a little revenue towards the quota, not relied for rev. my :censored:: that is why there is a monthly quota for officers) Nice ticket & have to go to DMV for inspection that the infraction has been remedied or your reg gets pulled (then your flagged for future, sweet).

What ever happen to the open creed "To Protect & Serve the PEOPLE" (seems like they are taught "It's us against them", and I am friends with a few). That is another subject, similar to the twisting of our constitutional rights :)censored:ing layers).

Just use your common sense and be safe, good luck all.

We choppered out a girl a few years back that was riding in the bed of a pickup between the cab and a load of drywall. The truck came to a sudden stop and she was crushed by the drywall.

Ended up dying later in the ICU.

Judgement and common sense are a good thing.

i get sooooooo pissed when people load cargo and never put it all the way to the front. or try and strap it up against the tailgate with like 6 foot of open bed to the cab...makes me want to kick them in the face...

This thresher was given to me I only had to move it from norther Virginia to my place. If I knew how heavy it was I would have left it set. I pulled across the scales near home at 19450lbs behind a Dodge 1500 2WD. All te way home I never went over 40mph. No idea why barnie did not pull me over.
