Saw this ad last night around 8:30.

And this was in my car at 9:15

Either he put a older bar and chain on it or it's got a few more than 2 tanks. But it's clean, holds it's own weight on the pull cord, and fired up like it should even with old gas.
Pretty sure that was a great price.
I'll give it a closer inspection in a bit.

This saw definitely saw very little use. Pretty sure this is not the bar and chain run on it.
Here r some pics.

Looks like it's been running rich. Probably good for breakin. I'll leave it there for a few tanks. Piston and cylinder look brand new!
I think I did good.[emoji106]
Only weird thing is it has an 8 pin rim on it?? Did they come with this stock?

Heading out for a bit. I'll finish wiping her down and post a few pics later. Chain is pretty loose in the bar groove, I'll have to try out my new bar closer![emoji106]

One thing I've found from ads are semantics. Like "I've only run two tanks through it" and the actual truth is that they did only run two tanks through it but someone before them used the saw. I see "misrepresentations" like that all the time. This saw has had way more than two tanks through it but is still a great find. Congrats!

All cleaned up and ready to get dirty! Cleaned up the bar and sharpened the chain.
Time to try her in some wood!

All prettied up.
Never cut with an 8 pin before. Definitely lose some torque. But she cut real nice. Just couldn't dig in real hard. I wonder how it will compare to a 460 if I change to a 7 pin.
All in all I'm pretty happy with it. Maybe after spending some time with it I'll lose interest in my huskies[emoji23].

Very nice saw. Best of luck with it.

I don't know alot about that model, but I'd imagine it would run great with a 8 pin and a 20" bar.

"2" seems to be the magic number for usage on CL. Every welder I've ever looked at was only used "2" times. From wrecks to cream puffs.

If it's running slow and isn't torquey, experiment with the mix adjustment while you're cutting. I was cutting a big maple with my Masterminded 066 and a 28" 404 bar. It was tuned by ear perfectly, but would bog terribly with any bar pressure. I actually had to call Randy for advice on it.

After speaking to him, I richened the saw up till the point where it was 4 stroking in the wood, then leaned it a bit till it didn't. The saw revved lower but cut much much better and had loads of torque.

Just my experience. YMMV.

Thanks! That's great advice!

IMHO, this is THE BEST way to tune any work saw.

(It is also the best way to ensure you lose in a saw race, other than running a crappy chain)

If it's the best and strongest tune, why would you lose?
A racesaw is all about chainspeed and RPM

A worksaw is all about running cool and being durable to take day after day of running

Tuning a little fat for a worksaw will yield more torque but less RPM's.

Saying "best and strongest tune" depends on what and why you are cutting what you are cutting.
