Years ago I had a Homelite 420 which was a gear driven saw, as opposed to centrifugal force. It was a real brute. Just curious if any are still around. Thinking it had about a 26 inch bar on it.

Yes, that is the one. Most saws when bearing down too much will stall so to speak. But the 420 almost seemed to change to a lower gear and keep right on. This was my Dad's smallest saw when he taught me to climb. I would pull it up the tree and cannot tell you how many times I dropped it while chunking down the trunk of the tree. If the ground men pulled too soon before I could get it out of the back cut, it would go to the ground also. I was a skinny 16 year old, that had a tough time lifting it up to the correct height to make a notch, etc.. Every time it fell and something broke, the replacement part was a different color. So it ended up being the saw of many colors. Lol.
