How many pulls to start your ms170 and ms180?

Just trying to get an idea. I'm used to my echos that pop on 1 or 2 and then one more on a cold start. The stihl ( no primer) takes probably about 8 pulls brand new

If its been awhile and the carb is dry that is about normal.

My wife has one. It's handy for yard chores, pruning and such. Starts cold with about five pulls.

Mine takes a little longer to start but other than running out of fuel it has never stopped by itself, it's been dropped, kicked, buried, thrown, rattled around in a ute, treated mean and laughed at, runs beautifully every time. Cuts 12" of anything and quickly. The 460 crapped out the other day and I finished noodling a felled stem with it, wasn't fast but it did it fine

Sitting for a while. My ms170 is about 6 pulls on choke. 1-2 on high idel and away she goes.

Pardon my ignorance, but why, when you can get a saw like a Dolmar 421, which will totally smoke it. Power output close to 455r even.

My 170/180 sits w/ TrueFuel 40:1 for extended times. Last out it only took about 3-choke plus maybe 2-high idle. I call everything down to about 1" Dia fair game and like a small saw when I get to the 4-6" and smaller range. Longer GB just for some reach.
I didn't buy mine, it just fell in my lap thrashed so I rebuilt it just for something to do. With all the crying I hear concerning "clam shells" I thought the experience would be helpful if I ever had to rip my 039 apart. No big deal. I wouldn't want to do this every day fixing the mess of straight-gassed saws knowing that a pro model cyl could be fixed all the easier.

Try opening up the low adjuster a little, makes it easier for the choke to pull fuel through. You must have a lot of patience to run a 170. Steve

If it's new and if its been used regularly I'd take it back and have the dealer check it out under warrantee.
This also documents the service and adjustment incase something goes wrong.
Have them check that the choke plate is fully closing. IIRC, some have said this is an issue with these little saws.
If it sits prolonged I don't think this is too far from normal. Swap to canned fuel for storage.
