I have been looking at the Makita saws but resale isn't very good, when i come to sell.
At the mo i have a Husky 350, which is a nice saw, just lacking a bit of poke.
I have spoken to a Husky specialist and he says go for the 365 due to the torque, he said the 357 is a high speed cutter/limber!!!! Is this true?
I hope to run a 18 or 20 inch bar.
I had 152, 30 year old conifers to cut down, limb and log.
The biggest was 30 inches across, so far i've done around 25.
The saw needs to be capable of all the jobs, as i will only be using the one saw.
Other than that, any other recommendations please
atvb CC:)

To a degree, he is right - but it looks like you need a 372xp, the 365 weights close to the same, with less power......

I would prefer the 357,lighter,faster revvibg than a 365.If weight is not a problem,go with a 372,share same platform as 365,but much stronger and higher revver too.

Resell is pretty good. I just sold my makita 6401 for 376 dollars on ebay..... seems good to me.

Depends on how old you are.

I had a similar choice a couple of years back.......I had run 272's, 371's & 257's at work.

So I bought a brand new Husqvarna 365 with 18in B/C against the advise of so many. And then I ran the new 357XP's that showed up at work...and watched two fry. I know I'll get some real crap saying this..I like my "homeowners" POS 455 better than those 357 XP's we have at work...mainly because I expected more for the price difference.

All the while I ran my 365 from time to time along with the other saws I have. Many times right after a day of cutting at work. (Like this week when I ran my 455 after a day of 357XP's). I really don't care for the 357XP's. You have to rev the crap out of them all the time to get anything done. When conditions are right, they are fast. The 272's and 371's (And now 372's) wear me out after a couple of hours. I understand all the spec wars and power to weight arguments etc.

So would I buy the 365 again?

Yup.

Little porky...
Fast enough.
Powerful enough
Reliable enough.
NO vibration worth mentioning...
Very forgiving saw (What do I mean by that?) You don't have to run it wide open all the time.

Not the greatest saw in the world on a spec sheet.
But the best saw to live with I've dealt with....ever.

Now if I was younger or a pro, then the 372XP or maybe a 576XP would be my first pick!

But being older not giving a crap about spec sheet wars, or who's pecker is bigger than the next guys; JUST wanting to survive a days cutting..because I have to, I'd pick the 365 again. (And I can have any saw I want truth be known)

FWIW, I love my 357. I run a 20" bar, and it seems to handle it fine. I bucked up quite a bit of 30" oak with it, and though I'm sure a bigger saw would get the job done a bit quicker, it suits me fine for now.

Prices in good ole blighty
357xp - £507
365 - £480
570 - £516
372xp - £592 (too expensive for what i need)

Nobody mentioned Stihl yet:biggrinbounce2:

In my humble opinion its between the 570 & 365. I've never run a 570 so I have no reference, but maybe you can test one at a dealer. I'd go with the 365 on weight & proven reliability over a long period of time:

365: 13lbs 4.6HP

570: 14.9lbs 4.9HP

Stihl 440 if ya can find one, the 441 and 460 are fine also. You got the 350 for smaller stuff, go for the 70cc saw now.

I can't warrant 2 saws, the bro in law was going to have the 350 but has welched out. He's only got a 156! ok for limbing i suppose

I can get a brand new Ms 361 for £525!!

I agree with this post. But I'd get the Dolmar 7300. My 2156 Jonsered(Husky 357) doesn't get used much at all. You may wonder why I'm comparing these two saws, it's because I paid the same price. Won't do that again.

Ummm, hard to say what will be a good 1 saw plan. The 361 is light for it's power and size and with a muffler mod, mine felt much more powerful. I'm sticking to a 70cc, better to have the extra grunt if needed. The 361 may be my second choice.:dizzy:

I ran a friends (motomedik's) Dolmar 7300 last week. Its a really nice saw. He did his usual muffler mod & retune job and it's....got power.:chainsawguy: More than my 365!
