MS 280 upgrade ? $400 - 600?

Will I notice a huge difference for firewood? I have a huge stump and some logs 3ft wide and the MS 280 was a little bit of a letdown power wise. I would love a 362 but 700+ probably wont work. What might be a big upgrade power wise for $500 or so? Other brands? Specs on the 291 dont look that different. I would love a 24 bar when I need it but have to watch the spend.

An MS 311 or Husqvarna 460 Rancher should be able to periodically pull a 24" bar. I wouldn't want that on there all the time...but for a few logs here and there, they will do.

If you re-post this in the chainsaw sub-forum, you will get more response. Everyone's idea of a "big" upgrade is different, but most everyone would agree that you could find a good used/rebuilt 372 Husky for under $500 and it will 100% guaranteed be a big upgrade.

If I had 500 to spend on 1 saw I would be looking for a real nice ms361

if i had .. A huge stump and 3ft round logs I would look to a ms462/572xp and a 28 inch bar ..and yes these saws would be a very noticeable improvement ... however they will cost more than $500

True, but the OP said $4-600. You won't get either of those for $600, but you should be able to find a darned nice 372 for that price. Maybe an ms460.

As much as I think the 462 is ruling that class right now, it’s way over his budget. 372s are our there, I passed on a $400 one last year.

yes i agree Ryan , that's what I stated in my post listed below :
however they will cost more than $500......
