thank you

thanks for the numbers.i was also thinking about trying a 8 tooth spocket when i get my 25 in bar what do you guys think???

I just got the DP cover and put it on this afternoon. The 044 ran like a raped ape before, now it screams even faster and louder than a raped ape. Not as loud as I expected it to be though.

460 Part numbers (including the nuts and bolts that you need for the outer spike):

DP muffler cover: 1128 140 0801

These are for the 460 (the 440 has a different outside dawg number):
Inner (skinny) big spike: 1122 664 0506
Outer (fatter) big spike: 1128 664 0501
Roller chain catcher (w/nuts and bushing): 1122 650 7700
Bolts: (2) 9008 319 0960
Nuts: (2) 9214 320 0700

The nuts and bolts are for the outer spike that go into the side cover. You use the bolts off the original inner spike for the larger inner spike.

I ran an 8 pin on my 460 running a 20 inch bar and it was fine. An 8 pin rim may bog on you with a 25 inch bar. I would try it. I found that my 044 bogged down some buried deep in fur with full comp 25 inch, but that was before I put on the DP muffler cover. I will have to try the 25 inch bar with an 8 pin rim tomorrow.

I like this thread! Now I'm getting ready to saw a little boundary of dead standing locust for firewood, and I'm gonna' buy a 460 just for the task. (Got to have more power for a quick cut, 'cause the stuff rains dead limbs and I need to get out of the way fast) Anybody had any bad mechanical experiences with their late model MS460's?

Uh oh... looks like they screwed up and ordered the smaller single dog as the inside one. You want the larger skinny inside dog. My IPL for the 460 shows the smaller inside dog as 1128 664 0500 and the larger inside dog as 1122 664 0506. The larger one is the one that matches 1128-664-0501 on the 460 (as listed on my post above) and the one you need to set the roller between. Someone does not know how to read the screen right at your Stihl dealer. The small dog will fit your saw, but it will not match the larger outside dog that you ordered.

See, these are a pair of large outside dogs here:

Oops, sorry, these are the type of large falling dogs that you want with the roller:

Shorten the life of the saw? By running it cooler with better flow, with a dual port factory muffler designed for the saw by Stihl??? :monkey:

In all likelyhood you will increase the life of the saw with the muffler mod, as long as you richen up the carb (easy turn of the H screw) after you add the dual port muffler. For a mere $32 and change.

Nope, if you need more flow open the DP cover. Here is an example but I didn't try to put the screen back in. For a stock 460, just adding the DP cover is fine.

Don't forget to richen carb!
