My first echo was a 400, ended up selling it as it just didn't have enough guts for me. It is a great lightweight saw, and has nice speed.
Back then my big saw was a husky 460.
Soon after that I picked up a brand new cs590 st the depot for $299, best buy I ever made!
I scrounge 6 plus cords a year, and often end up with big stuff other people gave up on. The 590 is a beast, able to blow right through the typical oak and maple scrounges I score, and much faster than my 460 could ever dream of.
I scored a returned 490 at the depot last year for $230, it had some chips on it but no wear.
The 490 is a great saw also, it revs fast, can pull the 20" chain just fine, but just not as fast when buried in Oak or maple.
I like the long bar on the 490 for limbing, as I don't need to bend down, and the saw comes in handy for finishing up the last few cuts when the 590 runs out of gas or is dull.
