I prefer square for everything but it can be a pain for fixing after encounters with a rock or something like that.

i have a nearly new 32 loop i had cutting real nice............metal in the tree. ashamed to send it out to be ground......i'd be pizzed if any one brought me that to file.

so far the save edge double bevel seems to cut and hold up the best....

The Madsens website states that full chisel is generally 10-15% faster than semi, and square is generally 10-15% faster than round. My results have been in line with that. That said, I realize different filing methods can change things, both ways!

I've heard of putting the chain on backwards and going just enough to get the chain moving.

I cut through a nail with one 24" full comp square, and touched a rock with another. The rocked one was much harder to bring back to life, but I brought them both back and they are both still in use. However, square files do cost a lot more. I'm using the PFERD triangular (3 square). I like em, but it is the only square I have used, so don't go by me.

I have a hard time orienting the angle on left cutters, prolly need to practice more with what I have.
