I have a poulan pro that starts good WITHOUT the muffler but not with. It has good compression, I put on a new muffler but that didn't help, any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks:msp_confused:

There are a thousand poulan pros going way back, some big number. You need to be more specific,(hey guys, my ford truck ain't running, why???...) but..something ain't right, your original muffler is too restrictive for sure. Plugged up somehow. Why with a new one it is still bad, now that is a puzzler, unless you got the wrong one.

Could be also you have right at the edge of run/no run with compression.

Or something else, dunno.... you had the muffler off now, what did the piston and cylinder look like?

Just a thought off the top of my head...
check your wire routing, Could be something getting pinched
or maybe the coil or plug wire is breaking down and arcing to muffler ?

any way a heat shield could be misaligned or wrong part if you bought new one ?
I'm thinking take off the muffler and just do a mockup by hand
and look at everything that gets moved or touched or close together.
Edit:
I should say to look at every panel or screw or wire, etc
that you move or could be moved when adding or removing the exhaust.
