I split in the dark sometimes, but not with an axe..I use my 27ton splitter. The jerkoff neighbors like to take pictures (with flash) of us working outside splitting and stacking wood like we are breaking some kind of local ordinance. It gets dark so early that it's sometimes the only thing you can do.

This is the reason I like to fire up my MM'ed 550xp from time to time "just because".

Anybody use a good old fashion coleman lantern? No electricity needed and lots of light. KD

I love splitting this time of year. Nice and cool, no mosquitoes, but like everyone has been saying, gets dark very early. I just use the lights on the back rack of my truck and the head light on the tractor. I typically have the logs already bucked and the rounds are stacked ready to split. I try not to run the chainsaw alone in the dark.
