hi all.
I use threebond on all saw crank case halves and have not had any problems ,this is the stuff car manufacturers use to secure sumps on cars I have also used a sheet of writing paper .005 " five thousands of an inch thick glue it onto one half of the crankcase and place the crankcase ,gasket side down onto a sheet of glass or something flat ,put a weight on top to make sure it sits nice and flat ,let the glue set overnight ,next day use a screwdriver or whatever using the SIDE of the screwdriver carefully rub around the sharp edges of the crankcase half if need be cut slots in the gasket to allow you to go into corners without damaging the new gasket to make the holes get a ball bearing a little bit bigger say 1/4 inch ,place it over the hole and gently tap the ball bearing and it will cut the gasket out perfectly you can also use a small hammer to tap around the edges and this will do the same thing, just be gentle .
The question on bearing spacing etc the bearings are fitted to the crankshaft and Float inside the crank case or at least one bearing is able to float to avoid any stress building up between the crankshaft and the crankcase .
Happy days.
Hutch.
