I bought a coil for my 280 not too long ago from my local dealer and it was about $40. I was expecting to spend a lot more than that. It was a pleasant surprise for a change.

I have a stihl 280 chainsaw. Had it for years, bought it new. Always had a hard time pulling the rope. A lot of times when pulling it would lock up on me. 2 different dealers told me that model was designed that way.

I have a ms280 and it wasn't running right, found out it was a torn intake boot with the advice from someone on here. If I remember correctly it's a common issue with the 280s.

This may help. I find a lot of people have issues starting saws when they just pull. Pull up to compression first, then a quick pull. This takes away the first kickback. The flywheel and rotating mass of the crank helps to get the piston through the next compressions. Fixed many a had to start saw (mainly MS250s) using this method.
Thoroughly agree with the carbon and coil issues.
