they are caps. Ive never seen flippy caps on anything other than a stihl. Milk bottles, 40 ozs, oil cans, baby bottles, pill bottles, water bottles, gas caps, radiators, torch tanks, acid vats, shampoo bottles, beer bottles, paint cans, salad dressing, Lee & Perrins brand Worchestershire sauce, lysol wipes, clorox wipes, lysol, clorox, shoe cleaner, windshield wiper fluid, vicks 44, liquid krill, liquid shrimp, liquid squid, liquid crawdad, liquid garlic, hand lotion, mixing oil, 3 & 1 oil, toilet cleaner, car wax, palmolive, husqvarnas, 660s, dont have them....

Plus they are a pita, try working them when you are 3 sheets, regular old righty tightys are wayyyy better.....

BTW, there is NO NEED TO USE A WRENCH ON SCREW CAPS..... hand tight works every time, every time.....
you ####in dumbasses that crank down on screw caps are stupid as hell...
plus you know ####s done gone ####ed up when a plug to a hole is made up of more than one piece.......
but really the reason i dont like em is that they slather oil all over me on cold days, & tired tired summer days..... that has never ever happned with a screw cap....

anger issues? Perhaps a little PUI?

Well yea Fatguy...that post time was 1:53 am....plenty lit by then:cheers:

but he's absolutely right. the tool notches in filler caps are for _removal only_ and _never for closing_.

if you have to wrench it _on_ to stop a leak, then it's time for a new gasket. which is nigh-impossible on stihl caps anyway. (i really like o-ring caps).

SO HERE'S MY
free engineering solution for saw caps:

make the tool interface one-way only.
simple i say.

finger on and if necessary, tool _only_ works to remove cap.

like those one-way fasteners in gov't owned public restrooms.

hell, i hardly ever use tool for caps ever anyhoo. kung fu grip and good gaskets!

folks are going to get burned with flippy caps. i know, i've run a leaky one--had a job to do and didn't know the cap had to be replaced to work. iow didn't know that one mis-step ruined a cap. was in a bind had to do the job, got lots of gas down my legs and all over the site. not a good feeling.

and that's my second main beef with those caps...one mistake and they're ruined.

folks will get burned and that's sad. i was lucky. and now i have a ritualistic special ceremony every time i fuel a flipper...which ain't often. i'll never buy one.

Don't get me wrong Wade....I hates me a flippy cap.The operation of them has never bothered me,but the recess/dirt funnel orifice that they plug into is my beef with them.I've got a 460 that constantly plugs up the bottom of the carb's fuel intake with very fine dust and detritus.Despite my best efforts,a little crap falls in the fuel tank every damn time I open it:censored:

Hey Thall, if you build it, they will come lol. Tell them at stihl they are missing a big market over inferior engineering pard

I just looked at the "yes" and "no" voters. The "no" voters aren't stihl fans, not one of them has "stihl" in their user name. I think that they hate stihl in general.

And I am the current steward of a goodly number of saws, every single one of them a Stihl.

And I do not like the little flippy caps. It is hard to keep sawdust out of the oil tank, and it can be difficult to get the caps back on correctly, despite THALL's video, because under real sawing conditins, it is easy to forget which direction the little tab was pointed when it was removed, and if the tank is filled to the top, there is not enough room to get the durn thing in there. I do like the fact that once they are correctly installed, they will not loosen on their own.

But if these caps are so great, why does the flagship pro saw, the MS660, still come with screw-in caps?

Yes and don't forget that I used to be a stihl guy until these changes. Of course flippy caps is the biggest issue but then air filtration and the switch choke all in one switch is over engineered as well imo. Features is what made a husky man out of me as, I refuse to be blinded by a brand name if they are making I like the stihls I have but would like them better without over engineered features.

I know many that bleed cremesickles that disagree Tommy and that is par for the course with stihl, they think they are too big to learn from the customer imo. They will defend inferior engineering with sales until they get bit in the ass.

Thall I can use the cap more accurately described as flippy dirt funnel. It hurts to know that pro saw manufacturers would defend something that should of never made it past quality control. I would have built the flippy in such a way that the old school cap could be interchanged and let my customer have their choice because I believe in customer service and product quality and functionality.
