Just wondering what you guys think. I'm not much of a poster but a faithful reader. I have a Husky 353 that has been Walkerized, just wondering if a pipe would add that much more performance. I know I should have gotten a 346 NE, but they came out a year after the 353 was purchased. Love the saw but would like a pipe if it would do any more, I cut about 6 to 8 cords a year, are they practical on a woods ported saw? Can they be a bolt on or does the saw need to be sent away for fitting? Anyone you guys know that builds them? Sure would love a pipe if it would work, don't mind spending the money if it works. alot of questions, sorry Thanks for listening.

work saws and pipes dont go together,if a saw is ported to the point of needing a pipe to perform its really not going to be a good full time work saw. saws that are really hot woods ports can use a pipe with limited benifit but not for a days work.jmho

Thanks tlandrum, didn't know that. I guess what it is, is what it is. its a good saw.

You could use a pipe to work with all day if you can stand the weight and noise. A pipe will be built to work with the current cylinder's porting. A saw race ported to run on pipe will more than likely beat a woods ported saw on pipe. Depends on the builder too.

A woods ported 346ne on muffler will serve you well and be a joy to cut with.

a pipe could be made to give ur saw gains. BUT it will decrease the usability. ur saw will heat up very quickly. generally piped saws make three cuts and thats it. also for the cost and time involved, you could go buy a good used 70cc saw. pipes are for playin and mufflers are for work.

thanks for the good advice guys. I can see how a pipe would be a lot heavier than a muffler. muffler mods are pretty loud though. In the end there is no replacement for displacement.

I went to a GTG a few years back, & AS member West Texas (no longer active???) had a MS361 with a pipe, IIRC it was woods ported, not racing ported. WT said that he used it, but it wasn't practical to use in the field, too easy for the pipe to catch on small branches, etc.

I posted some vids here, but I'm sure that by now PhotoBucket has pulled them due to my inactive account.
