BorER holes: little punch marks placed all over the trunk of the tree to distract an unskilled observer into thinking that borers killed the tree, rather than an impatient homeowner that wanted the tree gone. With a little ingenuity, you can even emulate the "D" shaped holes of certain borers.

You don't put Tordon in the holes (you could, I suppose), you just camouflage the cause of death of the tree. It's kind of like an ax murderer putting the corpse in a car and pushing it over a cliff.
