Well, I am not sure if i should be happy or a little pissed off. I will walk you through the scenario and then let you be the judge and i also have a couple questions.
Here goes.
4/19/09 - Purchase a Huskee 27 Ton log splitter w/Honda motor from TSC. I actually read a bunch of reviews on here and thought this would fit my needs very well as I do get into some bigger wood and I would like to split most of my wood for the OWB just for handling sake. I also thought, it is a wood splitter, I am going to get the Power Plus Protection plan.
Started using the splitter that day. Worked great. Used it for about and hour or so. I put up the splitter in the shed.
I went out about a day or two later and noticed a nice large (12+") round puddle of hyd oil. I thought, no big deal it is just new and probably seating in the seals.
I used the splitter, again great work. I put the splitter away in the same manor.
I went out about a week later and again another puddle of oil. Now I was concerned, but I thought I will use it again and see what is happening.
I used the splitter, again great work. (no performance issues) and put the splitter away as usual.
Checked it a day later and bang, more oil. At this point, I know something is wrong and I should talk to TSC to get some resolution.
5/17/09 I called TSC and described the issue. I was advised to bring the splitter back and they would exchange the splitter. I thought, great. The TSC employee informed me that they didn't have that model in the store, but they were expecting more in tomorrow. I was totally cool with that, as I am glad for the honesty.
5/24/09 I called TSC to make sure they had gotten their shipment of splitters and they had one so I could return my unit. They in fact had a splitter in the store so it would be no big issue. I hooked up the splitter and drove into town to exchange the unit. I got the employee at the customer service desk and he remembered talking with me and we went to perform the exchange and that is the 1st weird twist. He noticed the Power Plus Protection plan stapled to the original receipt and stopped my exchange right there. He stated that since i purchased the plan that the store couldn't do anything for me and I had to the call the 1-800 number to get assistance. I thought that was odd as I spoke to the store twice before and no mention had been made and it was within 30 days. I wasn't in the mood for arguing and said, alright, and went on my way.
5/25/09 Call the Power Plus Protection people to setup a claim. Very nice people to speak with. They processed my claim and informed me that since my purchase was large enough that they would come and pick up my splitter. I was like, good deal. Now the fun begins.
6/7/09 The claim had been paid by Power Plus Protection, but the shop that was working on my splitter (Sparks Service) hadn't returned my unit. I called the place on 3 different occasions to ask for an eta and got little to no response. I was told this day and never show, I was called 3 hours before they wanted to drop off the splitter. No way, I am letting them just drop the thing off without someone being there to receive it.
7/20/09 Yes, July. I get the splitter back. It is dropped off in my driveway. i grab the splitter and pull it into my main garage. I take a look at it and notice all the connections are teflon tapped. I thought, nice touch find the leak and also go the extra mile. Boy was I wrong.
7/21/09 I go to leave for work and guess what a puddle of oil on my garage floor leaking from the same spot as before. Now, i am just eating crow over being happy about going the extra mile. Now, I am pissed. I call Sparks and let them know what the deal is and get the answer. You need to call Power plus protection to set up another claim. I thought, WTF. You guys already processed the claim and it still leaks and i haven't even run the thing since you returned it.
So now I am hot, I have a pc of cardboard under the splitter just soaking up the hyd oil, not to mention it is almost out of fluid.
7/24/09 I setup another claim with Power Plus protection. I thought why not, give them a shot and see what happens. I called the PPP place each week to check the status and received 2 phone called today from Sparks. The 1st was to pick up the splitter and the 2nd was last week to tell me that they didn't have an eta for the part needed to fix my splitter. I called PPP and they told me they were handing the problem off to the warranty specialist, no idea some fancy task force bs. I then receive a call from PPP stating they are returning my full purchase price and to expect a check in the mail within 2 - 3 weeks.
10/6/09 - I call sparks and ask to come get my splitter and get, my manager is handling that and you need to speak to him. I thought, no big deal. I left my cell phone number.
10/7/09 - No call from sparks and I actually called sparks and left 1 message and then called back with no answer or return phone call.
I am thinking that I need to get my splitter back until the check gets here, if it ever does. I have a feeling that a sparks employee or acquaintance (no proof) has the splitter home since a claim has been processed and they don't want to take my calls. I am grateful to get my money reimbursed, but I am a little miffed that I have gotten no other explanation as to what the problem is/was or how it would be remedied in the future.
I guess my ##### should be with TSC. I just don't know how to justify getting another splitter from TSC, but the economics of another brand just to seem to fit my budget.
I know it was long winded, but what are your thoughts?
