Do I need a poly or steel brush for a steel chimney? I didn't know if a metal one would damage the pipe and cause more creosote buildup or not.

I would not use steel when a poly brush will do all the cleaning you need without the damage or scratches....

On a similar note I have always thought it would be cool to make a fitting for a 1/2 inch drill to run the brush down the chimney....

And on the same subject I thinking if your fires are burning properly then the soot build up should be minimal and what is there should flake off easily....

Poly for a metal flue, steel for masonry.

Creosote doesn't adhere well to stainless so a poly brush should serve. I don't recommend the use of a steel bristle brush in metal flues or liners.

Hope it helps.

+ Residual steel fragments from the brush decay the SS lining.
