What stihl would be equal to a husky 257

The Stihl contemporary to the 257 was the 034. I would take an 034 over a 257 any day. The 036 was competetion for the 262.

Jeff, if your brother is looking for a new Stihl to replace the 257, I agree with the 261. He will like it bc it is significantly lighter than the 257. If he would go for a recent model, the 361 carries a significant advantage in power over the 257 and saves him a few ounces.

I agree except my 257 seems a little stronger than my 034 . My 257 has alot of hours on it and the 034 I picked up is hardly used so maybe it just needs a few more tank fulls to break in .
 
The MS261 would be close in both power and weight, but suffer from the inboard clutch regarding handling in the woods.

The 257 was the lesser saw in the "family" of the 254xp and 262xp.

Thank you ST for my morning laugh! That every wood cutter out there would "suffer" so having such a horrible saw as the 261 is... :laugh:

Sometimes you're just too much, buddy...
