This is a novel thought SM. So, by your logic, I guess what you're trying to say is no one deserves to have something that isn't being used. An additional implication that follows this logic may be to state that no one deserves something if its not used for its intended purpose/purposes....
Seems reasonable I guess....
So, how long ago did you give up the 'ole wanker?
Or, are there some little spacefoals running around the house? If there are, I guess its only fair for ya to keep it.

Honestly... neither did I. It wont bother me in the least if it doesnt sell, but I told the wife I would throw it on there.
Between the purchase of this saw, and now- we found out my wife is expecting. I will use that for barter to keep the saw if it doesnt sell
.Some stay and some go, just takes me a little while to figure it out. I have quite a few saws, nice collection in my eyes... and I do spend some pretty decent money on them from time to time, even though I would never put a saw aquisition in front of my family. And even though keeping this one around, along with that 4200 isnt going to break the bank, I still try to keep myself in line.
I would be happy for whoever ended up with this saw, no doubt. If I end up with it, I will be just as happy as anybody. If its meant to be, shell stay haha.

Aww dont be... they can smell fear... shoot its the best thing that has ever happened to me.. I waited and waited till i though I could afford a kid..... we had twins... lol.. always a curve ball... but you just make it work...
The best advice I can give... is dont be so scaired that you run away... and I dont mean leave your family.... I mean don't start working late so you dont have to help with the new baby or dont be gone on the weekends cutting wood unless you need it to heat Your house... and be more helpful to her then ever b4. That child will be the best blessing in your life... enjoy every second of it... cause they grow so fast. Congrats

And don't worry, its normal to be afraid. Most people are afraid of the unknown, and having your first child ranks up near the top of the big time life experiences. The fears will only grow as your child grows too, so best get used to it. But, its just about the best feeling in the world when my boy begs to get on the tractor and run the bush hog to clean up weeds in the pasture, or like just yesterday to crank up the Wiz and see how loud it is once again!

I just got my first NOS saw last week, nothing rare by any stretch but any saw that has sat in its box, un-opned for 25 years is cool. Its a Poulan 2000 Micro. Im not gonna run or gas it. I have 2 others so its not like ive never run one. Plus its just a little Micro! I dont know how many more NOS in box saws Ill find so this one will stay dry.

tough call on this one.
I admire nice stuff as much as anybody... a brand new saw is exciting! And a classic long lost out of production saw that's never been gassed is a treasure to behold in a way. But what for? Put it on display, or use it unless youa re just hoping it will go up in value so you can sell it... and that isn't really treasuring it at all! Putting it in a box that you never open is worse than selfish, it's a waste.
I feel the same way about supercars and bikes. Most big ticket supercars get very few miles put on them, and of those miles, most are done at way less than the speed limit. Tell me that some schmuck who bought a veyron and drives it at 20mph through town so everyone can see him really deserves it? Yeah it's a treasure, and a work of art. Yeah a ship in port is safe... but that's not what ships are made for!
There was a great interview of this nutcase millionaire in Australia a few years back. We used to have a road race called the cannonball run. This guy had some ridiculously expensive supercar of which there werent that many ever made. Might have been a ferarri F50 I think. These sort of cars usually spend their life in heated humidity controlled garages. He drove it daily, and did drag racing starts from every set of lights, thrashed it for everything it was worth, drove it to its limits. He wrote it off in the cannonball run that year, which was a terrible loss. But just watching him use that car was a joy.
We are the last generation who will ever have it so good. The cusp of conspicuous consumption was reached some years back. We are now in the decline, and the curve will only get steeper. From oil to base metals to petrochemicals to rare and precious elements, we've used up the bulk of them and there is no more of where that came from. Nobody will ever again have it as good as we have, the future consists mainly of having less, and for much greater cost and effort. So if you've ever had a dream, have a go now while you still can! Ever wanted to own a big V8 and do burnouts in the carpark? get in now while you still can! It's disappearing fast, and when it comes to saws, put it in a museum or run it while you still can. We've already cut down every big tree in the world. Soon there will be no big trees, no new saws, and no fuel to run them, and no point to running them even if there was ;-)

This is how I think also. If I have another example of the same saw, then there is no reason to fire up the NOS unit. What makes it special to begin with is that it's a virgin, and you can only be a virgin once. It's not like I don't have other saws to cut wood with. I have three saws that while not NOS, are so mint that it's hard to tell whether they have been run or not. (262XP, 272XP and Jonsered 70E) No need to get them dirty. I've also set aside a 372XP and 2171 that are going to stay in their boxes. Yeah, it's a little nutty, but part of the fun of collecting.
But if you think I've got it bad, there is a fellow Husky dealer, (who I will not name), who has one NOS of each interesting Husky model going back about 25 years in a display case in his store. Whenever they discontinue a saw, he puts one in the case. Awesome collecton!
Well put Spike. I have 27 +/- saws right now. Along with the Micro I have Craftsman/Poulan 3.7, Stihl 031AV, and a Poulan 3400 that all have less than 10 tanks thru them.
