If you had a choice between rough but equally serviceable McCullochs 800, 850 or Double Eagle 80 which would you purchase to use?

Is there any advantage of the location of the decompression valve - side above muffler or back above spark plug?

Thanks, Ron :)

Ron, All the 80 or 82cc saws your talking about are nice saws.
I have 2 850's and they have great power. As far as value the Double eagle 80 is worth more by demand.
A member hear Randy Mac has run those saws and might
chime in.

I have all of the models you mentioned. I do not have a preference from a power standpoint. As for a true collector then one does stand out.

Now that I have committed to buy all three from several thousand miles away. Which model stands out to you from a collector point of view?

So among the electronic ignition 5 cubic inch Macs how would you rank the collector value of: 800, 805, 850, DE 80, 8200?

The reliability?

Am I missing any?

Thanks, Ron

You still have the 8200? How is it running if you still do have it?

I have not run it since I replaced the bar bolts. The best I can tell it ran great cutting a good size red oak but it kept pulling the bar back as the bolts were stripped and it kept bending the adjusting screw which was a SS machine screw I got from Lowe's as I couldn't find a stock screw locally. I'll probably fire it up on Saturday if it doesn't rain. I was too cheap to outbid a $65 bid for the proper chain brake and side cover offered on EBay a few weeks ago. And I haven't welded the cracked muffler, yet. I hope running it in this state won't hurt it. Ron

I put a little yellow and black paint on it to make it look better. Colors are not correct other than the original grey which I didn't paint.

Just got my "new" saws today. After a little head scratching and research, it turns out the PM800 is actually a SP81E with a PM800 filter cover. Assuming all else is equal did I go forward or backward with this little discovery? Thanks, Ron

PS: The DE80 is a DE80. All three have had the chain brakes removed. Actually the SP81E appears to have an early non-chain brake cover on it. I guess I'll be parts hunting for a while.

Darn CAD now I want one of those!

So what do you guys in the Northwest run in these saws???

Below is a picture of the stuff I shook out of the gas tank of my Idaho PM 850. About a 1/4 of a tank of white clumps and powder. The tank was corroded through. Piston and cylinder are good so I may build myself a PM 825 (850 engine in a late 800 chassis). Ron
