Kinda like that. Got it over the shoulder then noticed the decent sized sliver of lip seal laying on the bench. It’s ok I’ll get it done eventually. And thanks for spotting the jet cover. That’s how it was when I got the saw and I haven’t touched the carb because PO put a fresh kit in it.

I would be a looking at that Carb, fresh kit, was it OEM or a chinese clone kit. I certainly would trust the seller to say anything to sell the saw! And the Needle cover just reaks of quality work!
Your dime, your nickle and with all the other parts your going to ignore the main thing that can screw it.

I appreciate your concern, I spoke at length with the PO and put the saw thru it’s paces after I purchased it so I’m confident in the current status of the carburetor.

Always wondered why this little 46cc clamshell poulan locked up years ago. Today I dug in to find out. Notice wooden dowel used to get it out. That was the 2nd one needed to finish the job.
Poulan 295 4620 46cc craftsman dark green case.

She was running when she came to a halt. Can see the area on side of ext and cyl.

Anyone need anything from it just holler.

For you folks that use these saws still. Least this way if you have them for collecting you can save your plastic cover if your not lucky enough to have the oem metal ones.
Here is another idea I tried yesterday after seeing and running the 415 race saw with one, but with back half cut off.

I wasn’t going to do it. The 372 side tensioner cover was just to different.

But curiosity was killing me to know if I could make it work leaving the back half there. 372 side tensioner clutch cover with hand piece grinder used on it use on the partner poulan jred saws. Used double cut and cut off. Not perfect by any means. But now you can have side tensioner use these when nla covers can’t be found.
Imo front 268 etc cover still fit best. Now to test cut. Pic of the first one I did using those. All done by hand and hand pieces on grinder head.

Where idea came from.

Hey Kevin , I see the area on the side of the piston and cylinder but what is the ext ?
Thanks,
Scott

Picked up a 5400 this week from the original owner, even has original Poulan 28" bar on it. Piston was scored lightly but the rings were free and not damaged, so I pulled the jug and it had some light transfer on it. I scotch brite padded the piston and cylinder by hand a bit to smooth it out, put it back together and put new fuel line in. Then I cleaned it up a bit. Runs good, tons of compression so it should be good to go. (ignore the Poulan 6000 in the first pic, it's not mine, just working on it for a guy.)

Thanks Tim, the old gentleman I got it from was pretty cool too, the few minutes I got to talk to him. Only getting rid of it cause he can't pull the cord with no compression release.
Great looking saw, there a great many of the older generation that have had many great experiences that aren't available today.

I would love you find a 5000 series poulan!!!
