i know she's dirty, a little rough. the owner said he thought it ran but had no gas. so i gave him $90 for it. got home took off the fuel cap and saw fuel in the tank, so i pulled the starter about 6 times and it fired up! ran like a champ! a little investigating and i see it needs a sprocket, fuel line (very squishy) a bar, and the chain adjuster has been cross-threaded. i'm thinking this will be my primary saw for cutting firewood. i'm gonna take her to the shop tomorrow and clean her up and see what else i can find. what do ya guys think? BTW it's a 61 Rancher

Nice score!! Lets see it when bathed. REJ2

will do. where's a good source for parts for this? the fuel line looks like it might be a special "flared" line where it goes in the tank. i'm sure i can get a sprocket locally. the bar is pretty much trash, at least the tip. it's an 18" but i think i'm gonna find a 16" for her and get to work!

If you're worried about the 18", don't be. That saw will pull and 18" bar with ease. 20" is even fine on a 61. There is a reason they made those saws for so many years. They are extremely reliable. You'll probably need some AV bushings for that saw. Baileys has them as a set.

Rancher

I'm sure it will clean up just fine:clap: You might want to do a vacuum test just to make sure it stays that way:cheers:
Just about ANY Husky is a GOOD saw,Congrats

i'm guessing by the metal chain brake handle this must be an early 80's model?

So i got her cleaned up pretty good, still looks kinda rough. a took off the muffler and to my suprize and P&C are probably the best i have ever seen! absolutley no scoring! the AV mounts were pretty worn. so i ordered a new 16" carlton pro-champ, semi-chisel chain, fuel line, av mounts, plastic oil-pump drive, and the bar plates that were missing. can't wait til it all get her

Not really, on the original 3.6hp Rancher (that this is) - but as always it depends on user expectations.....:givebeer:

Nice score. I had one just like it. It was my first "project saw". I was quite pleased with how it came out and no, they are not fast, but they are spot on reliable. I did try a 24" bar on it, but that was too much.

Yeah i'm bettin 24 would be a bit much. it came with an 18 but it's pretty much done. so i ordered a 16. i think it will suit this saw fine
