Yes, specs at the end say idle soeed for the engine is 55,000 rpm, 1st stage is up to 195,000 rpm, 2nd stage is up to 80,000 rpm. The output shaft, presumably to the chain, is 5.1kW at 12,500 rpm.

Ah, crap. My son wanted to build his go-kart with a jet engine. I told him I didn't think that would work and went with a 1000 watt motor instead. Shows what I know.

Yeah, looks like those are thrust type engines, not ones that have a shaft where you can get power out.

Biggest problem with jet engines is, it took em just about forever to get to where the compressor stage didn't eat up 60-80% of the power output.
So, striking that balance, and THEN getting extra power out of the shaft is kind of a pain in the ass

Which is why the hobby guys liked to play around with the sort of "2 cycle" version of jet engines.

And probably why it took almost to the year 2000 until roof mounted backup power turbines were practical.

Then there are versions where, doesn't matter if you fire it up or not, when the neighbors see it, they're calling the cops. :D

And other things that are just "oh hell no!" simply by looking at em.

This is a jet powered go kart with an output shaft, not using thrust. Home built using a Garrett Turbo. They put out up to 150hp on the home built ones.

:surprised3:
My son had the go-kart blueprint with the jet engine and everything...and I told him it couldn't be done. We built this instead:

I'm going to put the reverse switch on hold and work on a pulse-jet mount....
