It's not hickory,I was thinking it was sweet gum but wasn't sure

looks like poplar to me: rough raised bark....light meat

I agree poplar/cottonwood but a "middle aged" one
I'm seeing more of an elm in those pics, but it is tough to tell...
I see one "D" shaped borer hole in the right side of the pic although there's several species subject to borers.

My wood guys dropped by right after I posted today,,He told me it was sweetgum.
He was dropping off a mixed load of apple and honey locust on the second trip.

friend of mine is into the tree business. they dropped a poplar tree one day and piled it by the road.
some guy stopped and asked a helper what kind of tree that was, the kid really didn't know but told him it was oak. the guy returned 5 minutes later with a trailer and hauled off 90% of that tree.
