Makita DCS-520 mods

Hi to all, I'm from the UK and seeking a little advice on a Makita DCS-520 saw i bought recently. I have seen on a few posts on here that this chainsaw responds ok to subtle mods like more muffler flow. Anyone had any negative experiences with this - very interested to know as despite the age it seems a great little saw, i'd just like a touch more power if possible. Phil H

They respond well to opening up the muffler. The gains aren’t huge, but it helps. The greatest strength of this saw is that it is a reliable tank of a machine. I liken them in that respect to some of the Echo saws - not the most powerful example of their cc class, but reliable and durable.

Beyond that, they respond well to porting, should you wish to go that route.

Thanks for the reply - I might source some info later about the possibility of porting it, though for now a little muffler enlargement and upping the gas will suffice.

It might also benefit from removing the base gasket, depending on how much squish you have to play with.
