Homelite 330 clutch & oiler question

Thanks Undee! So if this oil tank only has the 1 supply line going to the pump...how is this tank vented..where's the vent? Or is there another line somewhere I'm not seeing? I'll get her put back together and try the vacuum test. Thanks everybody for the help. Dow

Homelite 330 clutch & oiler question

I want to fix it up, but she's no good if the oiler won't work. I've already checked everything I could to make sure it would oil...diaphragm, vacuum hose from crankcase, oil tank line/filter, tried priming the system...not sure what else to do about the issue? Maybe I'll replace some hoses and...

Homelite 330 clutch & oiler question

Man...I'm completely lost now...and frustrated...I'm about ready to chuck this thing back in the dumpster. I got the saw apart, after taking the carb and oil pump off, and the fuel tank. Checked out the intake boot....seemed very pliable still, no dry rot or rips. And the hose in question from...

Homelite 330 clutch & oiler question

Dern right you guys forgot to tell me that. No I haven't removed the carb. I thought about it, then unscrewed one of the screws about halfway and said...no...that can't be what's holding it on, and tightened it back up. Is that what I'm screwing up? Dow

Homelite 330 clutch & oiler question

Well...I spent a few hours with this thing today after work. Took the filter out of the oil tank, it was clogged...cleaned it and tried running...still no oil. Watched the tutorial and unassembled the pump, checked the diaphragm and spring...all seems flexible and properly functioning. I've got...

Homelite 330 clutch & oiler question

Thanks a lot guys! Reading up on the sucker, sounds like the oiling system isn't any good to begin with. I'll tear it apart tonight and look for any blocked or linked oil/vacuum lines...and check out the diaphragm for the pump. Anything else I should check? I can get a clutch shoe relatively...

Homelite 330 clutch & oiler question

Spins off clockwise....great! Thanks! Now is that plate behind the clutch piece attatched to it? And how do I get this thing to oil? There's a screw on the bottom of the saw right in the middle, is it some sort of adjustment for the oiler? Dow

Homelite 330 clutch & oiler question

Hi guys! A few years ago, the janitor at work found this old saw in the trash and gave it to me. it was pretty rough looking, so I just put her in the dead pile in the garage and forgot about her. Recently, a friend a work asked if i had any decent saws for use around the house, he's a good...

Metal piece fell from tree after cabling...

Ok thanks a lot guys, I feel a little better about it. I'll try and find the cable up there and make sure it's still attatched, it's way up there though....ya Art, not sure if it was common practice to top firs back then, but somebody did it. And there's about 30-40 feet of new growth, a huge V...

Metal piece fell from tree after cabling...

Well, about a month and a half ago, i had 2 large fir trees next to each other wind thinned and cabled. The trees were topped 20 years ago and had a lot of new growth where the tops had split into a V. I thought the company did an ok job, a climber in each tree, one much less experienced than...

Untreated Rail Road Ties..Cutting and Burning?

I work for the railroad, and up to about 10 years ago, they used to let employees take as many old ties home as they wanted, of course cresoste treated. But were good for gardens, driveways and such as stated earlier. Those days are long gone now....all those scrap ties are sold for whatever...

I live in Maple Valley, WA, we have a hardware store that is quite the opposite, Johnsons. Idler screw moving...

Hey guys. My idler screw on my Stihl 041 super rotates all over the place when I'm running the saw. Not sure how it came from the factory, but what keeps the screw from rotating, a little nylock plastic piece...or a spring or something? Thanks, Dow

New to me Stihl 038AV Super, photos and a few questions

Can't help with your questions Neil...but I can tell you that the 038 is a great saw. I've got an early 80s 038 and it's been my go-to reliable saw for the last 15 years...bullet proof and able to handle any task around the home and surrounding woods. Maybe a bit heavy by today's generations...

    Moss

Ha! That's funny. First time I've ever encountered somebody that wants or is encouraging moss growth! I worked so hard this year to rid the moss from my yard that it probably took a year off my life. Spreading killer, thatching, raking, repeat, re-seeding, fertilizing....my whole yard was moss...
