I recently picked up a little used Jonsered 670 Super from a neighbour at a good price and was wondering if you can determine the year of manufacture from the serial number or any other way.

Thanks.

Better yet, post pictures of it. I have heard that the 670 super is a very good saw, though I have never seen one. You will have to let us know what you think.

I have a jonsered 630 from 1992 - their plastic mouldings - flywheel cover, top cover and chain brake handle all have a moulded in date code, the middle has the year, the outer circle the month - it is usually the same diameter as a cigarette filter.

Take a look

That is an inaccurate method, as it only tell when those parts were made, not when the saw as such was made. Parts could have been changed out, or could be made well before the saw was built.

The serial number is a more accurate method, but if it is missing it is the best that you can do...... :)

Thats why I would check 2 or 3 parts and would then be pretty sure if they all matched that the date of manufacture had been found - I would agree that it is inaccurate if only one part has been checked and the saw has seen a bit of life.

Re:

Thanks everyone, great info. She ran like a top when I dropped a couple of 30 inch pine this weekend. Can't wait to see how she does with the oak and maple firewood.

3490402, just wondering if you guys could tell me what year this is, I'm thinking 1993?? It was my grandpas and I just recently took it out of my grandmas shed and had it tuned up and new bar/chain. It had been sitting since the fall of 2000, the year he pasted away.

@SawTroll is the expert on dating these by the serial number. But my guess is year: 1993. week: 49 number 402 built that week.
Nice saw by the way. Take good care of her and she will last forever!

I Have a Jonsered Raket 621. Seriel: 895485. Any idea on year?
No not really......the old Jonsereds numbers are merely serial numbers with no year or date coded into them like the newer saws.

If you can post a pic we would likely be able to tell you whether it was early or late production but that's about as close as we can date the old, true Jonsereds.

Hi can you tell me also the age of our jonsereds 621 if I send you the number
It’s 328986 many thanks
Sorry...again no....if you can post a pic we could give an educated guess as to early or late but that's about as close as we can come....the old Jonsereds serial numbers were not coded with any info......basically just a production number.
