I know the difference in the 152-153 handle setups and know they follow the same in the Poulan 6000, S6000 but what else is different between them?

I found out the hard way that the Dolmar sprockets listed for 152, 153 and 166 will not fit the 6000 Poulans.

Seems the crank is different on the PTO side. The Poulan 6000 uses a huge 21mm bore in it while the Dolmar used a 18mm bore.

I have been at wits end and have bought 2 sprockets now that wont work on my 6000. The one is a NOS Oregon rim drive which I know are obsolete and is a good find. (IF I could have used the darn thing)

So it seems there is no rim setup ever used on a 6000 as the brg and sprocket bore would be way to large.

I'm going to look into getting the bore on a 152 sprocket machined out to 21mm. Do I have any other options?

Mark, I have a S6000 that is actually a 152 and a S6000
that is a 153 and several Sachs Dolmar 153's, Unfortunately
all are wearing bars. If i get a chance i can take some appart
but won't be for awhile. I know the 152 has a different wrap
handle than the 153 and like you mentioned the rear handle
is different. The 152 also has a different air filter and filter
mount. Early 152's had points ignition then they went to
electronic. All 153's had electronic.
Thats all i can think of for now.

Mark,

The one thing I've been was wondering is if the drum/crank is actually different between the 152 and 153. I haven't yet seen a 152 IPL to compare the part numbers. Recall, both our 6000s have 6 six shoe clutches and none of the IPLs we have show that clutch.

Mark, if u need that rim bored out, let me know. I've got a couple 6000 cranks I could measure up for ya if u needed me to, as well.

The DOLMAR 152 does only show a spur .404" sprocket #116223002 in the IPL and it does also show a 962210001 bearing 17/21x17mm and used a spacer bushing #962200001
The 153 shows the 15/18x17mm Bearing and a rim type sprocket #152223100 and a spur sprocket #152223010 The 153 also used a spacer bushing under the bearing #962200004

Maybe a spacer bushing swap would help?

Hope this info helps
Scott

Yep,

my 152 has the hardened bushing as well. but the numbers say 152, and it has the 153 type tank/handle.

Could be someone switched out the tanks back in the day? The colors match real well, so it could be some of the later 152s got the more modern 153 tank????

I am having a hard time finding a rim drive drum as well, so if anyone finds a substitute, or a cache, post it up.

I did find a rim type on the bag last Winter. Also have a spur drum that I turned the spur off (it was worn out) and bored an 8 pin .375 rim then brazed it on.

No more than I use them old girls, it should last me for awhile.

Cuttingscott hit it on the head.

You need that bushing/bearing for the 153, my 152 has the drum with 21 mm bore. The bearing is 21mm O.D. 17mm I.D. Bushing is 17mm O.D. and crank is 14mm where it rides.

But you are right, the 153 drums have a smaller bore than the 152s. Perhaps that is why the one I got off the bag fits my 153s. Could be they never did make a rim/drum set-up for the 152s.

Guess I have the only one eh? (too bad it is not easily replaceable)

Thanks for all the imput guys!

I didnt know I had a 152 IPL but I did find it on the house computer, it was not on the shop computer that Chris and I were looking on Sunday.

It does show the 152 using the same setup as the Poulan 6000's that we have. What was baffling me was the fact that the books listed the same sprocket for all three, the 152, 153 and 166 which is obviously wrong unless a later 152 did use the smaller bore sprocket.

Then again, both of our 6000's are electronic ign which in my mind would make them a later model 152/6000?

I know that Chris stumbled on a 3/8 x 8 Herr spur sprocket for his and I was looking to do the same but dont hold out much hope now.

I'm trying to figure why they only went with a .404 x 8 on these originally, to me its obvious from what I ran mine that it dont have enough nuts to pull that sprocket with authority! It might be ok with a .404 x7 but I cant find one of them either.

I do have a nice 38" Dolmar bar now with a 3/8's tip so I still want to go to 3/8's on the saw but it looks like I'll have to see about getting one of these 8 tooth 3/8's spurs machined out to fit the 21mm bearing.

Any one need a NOS Oregon rim and drum set up for a 153 or 166? I know a guy who has one that cant use it.

Got a Herr part number? I know a guy that has a bunch of Dolmar parts (including Herr and Total sprockets) that has no reference numbers.

"Nother option might be, have someone cut the spur with the splines to fit a rim. Wouldn't be easy as those spurs are harder than Kelseys nutzs.

Don't know why you think them 6 cubers can't pull an 8 tooth, I use 8 on all of mine, even use an 8 when milling. Course they are .375x8.

Have ripped through 28" of Oak 19 feet long (several passes) with the 8. Them old strokers don't have the revs, but do have some grunt.

Yeah .404-7 is about the same size as .375-8, .so .404-8 might be a bit much.

BTW clutch bearing surface on the 152 is 14mm, the 153 is 12mm.

Sd 153 Ignition Module

Hi,Im looking for a ignition module for a SD 153,mine seems to have a spark prob when it gets hot, also whats the best aftermarket piston to put in as it ran lean at some stage before i bought it but i tink i mite be able to save the cylinder, well hope i can as i cant find a replacement.I cleaned up the piston best i could as the ring recesses took a scoring and had sticky rings. PS.heres a video of the saw as it is but look at the end when the trottle is let go..it DIES:msp_sad:.It starts agn after abt 30 mins but dosnt run good as if the carb settings were adjusted. It has abt 155psi when cold.So hopefully i can get her back to full life..Any Suggestions or parts?
