The gain is more air flow capacity. Higher rpms and more flow capacity in the other ports equals faster and faster cutting.

Well, obviously more flow capasity helps, if that point is the "bottleneck". I assume it has a larger inner diameter then, while still fitting. :)
 
I think I'd be afraid to bring a saw to 15k for fear that the rings may not have time to seat.
Especially in longer cuts in bigger wood, since the saw needs fuel.

Your piston speed isn't high enough to cause the rings to float. That'd be around 3000fpm ring issues won't happen until you get closer to the 4000+fpm area.
