Old homelite coil repair

I need to replace the plug wire and have the old one out. The coil is good and clean. I assume the wire is held in place by an adhesive as well as the barb and pressure. What sort should I use? Will JB WELD suffice?

Can't believe I didn't think of this before. Silicone or gasket stuff probably makes more since.

This is just to hold the wire in place and keep it from vibrating its way out, right? For the amount of stress it will/should see (minimal), I would use High Tack.

Silicone based stuff does not hold up to gasoline. I'm sure you don't often spill gasoline on the plug wire, but keep this in mind if you DO use a silicone based adhesive.

One more question about this thing. Do you think I can harvest a boot and wire off of an old coil in my junk pile or should I go model specific?

The spike in the coil HT socket is often left hand thread My preferred way is winding in the wire (make sure the HT lead is cropped off square )when tight a bead of super glue Gel to bridge socket/wire. Yes you can use the plug cap if it is for the same dia as the HT lead usually either 5 or 8mm dia

i have always used a 2 part epoxy and allowed it to cure for at least 24 hours, if not longer. in the past i have actually added a drop of sauter and exposed a good bit of the plug wire before inserting because i had problems getting a good connection. the last thing you want is it to not be secured and arcing in there.
