I use a pferd which is about the same thing. Works good and keeps your rakers at proper height.
I run my chains until the teeth start breaking off and still get nice smooth boards.
I use stihl PMX ripping chain but I suspect the file guide would work well on other chains.
On crosscut chains I freehand or use the Oregon file holder/guide.
