That's why. The xl1 is the plain version of the series that doesn't have the release. High compression in a light saw makes it quite awkward to start, it always wants to come back at you.
Once you get it running through, the high compression and reed valve combination gives it an incredible amount of grunt for a small saw. Still the one I use as a benchmark to compare others of this displacement to.
