Just curious why there are so MANY MORE old Stihl's out there???Even on E Bay there's pleanty of "70's-"80's Stihls and not many old Husky's.What's the reason for this? Are parts easier to get for old Stihl's than the Husky's?

nah... everyone wants to hold on to a husky :D:D:D

where r u 2000???

Exactly . A Husky will last you so much longer than a Stihl so in maybe 20 years, you will also find Huskys on ebay. But even then, they will still have better performance than a new Stihl so people will keep them.

but seriously, I'd say it's cos they sold WAY more back then - husky were even further behind in numbers those days. And they have a good resale value - the old ones are very hard to kill and will keep going for several owners assuming good maintenance.

It's also been said they (stihl) stand the test of time a bit better... ;)

I could be wrong, but I believe it's because there are a lot more Stihl saws available. Stihl has out sold Husky in saws sale from the beginning, thus being more used saws to sale. And I am by no mean saying that Stihl is a better saw(well maybe), but there are just more Stihl saws out there.
Ponder this?? If you walked into a crowded city shopping mall filled with city slickers and you show a 100 people the word Stihl what is the first thing comes to mind , They are going to say chainsaw. Show them Husqvarna, a few may say chainsaw, but most will laugh and not even know what it says, or how to pronounce it.

I had my wife who works in an office with several hundred people try my little experiment. I had her write Stihl and Husqvarna a piece of paper and ask 5 of her co workers what comes to mind. All 5 said Stihl was a chainsaw. 2 said Husqvarna, they thought were lawn mowers because they had seen them at Lowes. The other three had no Ideal. Interesting.

Thats because when you buy a stihl 50% of the sell price goes into their marketing budget instead of back into R&D... It would be interesting to know if your wifes collegues 1) own a chainsaw and what brand is it, or 2) need a chainsaw.

Otherwise asking your wifes office is just like asking us about tampax. everyone on AS knows about it, and 1% of AS actually need it... :D:D:D:D

They must have been young'uns. Everybody my age knows that this is a Husqvarna:

CR stands for "close ratio", the gearbox used in the mx bikes. WR was the trail/enduro bike. And in 1972, a 400cc Husky was one mean bike.

You are right there. For years I thought a Husqvarna was a motorcycle. And a damn fine one at that.

What's a tampax?????? Sounds like a tool you would use to manually cut a tree down with. Is that any thing like a broadax with wings. LOL

I think of Elux, as in vaccum cleaners, they SUCK.

I made my wife buy a Husquvarna sewing machine when she was looking because they made chainsaws, so if you were to ask her she'd tell ya it's a sewing machine, she'd also tell you that a Stihl is what I spent too much money on.

You have that arse backwards, check the prices of Stihl's on ebay. We also have trees bigger than 4" 'round here.

Stihl has always been a strong selling. I know around here there are a lot more stihls than husky's. I know that there are plenty of people who like husky's but I just think that, as said in previous posts, they were more popular back then. How were price comparison between the two back then? That could be a reason also...

Great post! The prices of husky have been cheaper than most Stihl's in the past when you could have a eluxusky shipped to your door. That is where husky goofed. Now husky is just as high if not higher than Stihl, model for model. Also, husky claimed to end all net sales and that hurt them even more. Why pay so much for a lesser saw, LOL? I'll stick with the Stihl.......

When I saw that picture the first thing I thought of was King Richard Burleson even though that one is not an Enduro.

I just love to ride dirt bikes even though I'm getting too old.

Wow it got deep in this thread fast.

Stihl had a much better and larger distribution system in my area back then and Husky was competing against itself(in a manner of words). If you add up the number of Husky, Jonsered, and Partner dealers in my area they would have had about the same number of dealers as Stihl but Stihl still out sold them all.

When I buy used saws I ask a lot of questions and when it came to Huskys, Partners and Jonsereds the same problems always came up, parts availability and down time(waiting) in the shop. Stihl dealers in this area still hammer the Jonsered(and new Husky)dealer in this area as well as greatly out sell them in every size of saw.

The companies that invested in other brands of saw than Stihl seemed to like the saws well enough but the down time was a huge issue and an important one when the next order was placed, as well as aggressive pricing.

I own more Huskys then anyone in this area that I know of, not because I like them but because they are an odd duck for me, just other brand to collect.

A lot of Husky owners seem to have chosen Husky because they do not like Stihl/dealer. Lately Echo, Dolmar, and Efco have been replacing Husky in that crowd. Lowes is our largest and most effective Husky dealer.

You forget one thing. Huskies come complete with an inferiority complex at no extra charge however, installation is not required. Some just can't resist the give aways.
