We have an older Vermont Castings Encore 2550, a Catalytic burner.

Works fantastic. Heats our entire place with it (2800 square feet).

I just cleaned it out actually, prepping to re-seal the windows in it.

My kitchen stove is a 1909 Glenwood C model. Like Woodbooger, It's going everyday starting round Oct and it heats about 2/3 the house and cooks everything.

I bought my Federal Airtight 288 in 1987. It accepts a 24" log with ease through the side loading door. I intend to burn 5 cords of firewood with it this year, perhaps a couple of more if it really gets cold. I love a cast iron stove, especially one that tips the scales at about 550 lb.

i grew up with this same exact stove, smoked back bad though, which i have learned was due to the ineffeciant chiminey and draft. I just bought a new Jutol made in 2007

1983 Country Flame Insert

Bought at a hardware store for $825.00 in 1983 the year the house was built. Double glass doors and considered top of the line. Original fan and thermodisc. Replaced power chord and three way switch twice. The two homeowners of this house have gotten their money's worth....... However, am not happy with high wood usage, creosote buildup, and problems with air leakage around double glass doors. Want new unit but what's available in this area with 6 inch flex liner will run around $4000.00. So undecided. However, you have to admit the older stoves were meant to last albeit inefficient.
