Who would like to see a 55 to 60cc motor on the 5100S chassis? Maybe a 5700 or 5900? Is there enough room on the 5100S frame ? I think Dolmar could use some direct competition with the MS361 and the 357XP. Are there any rumors out there?

I agree, the 6400 is a good solid saw, but its not really in the same category as the MS361 and 357XP. It needs to shed a little weight to fit in with those two.

55 to 60 ccs is only 5 to 10 more than the 5100. That's not enough difference to justify the r & d and retooling for another model. Not to mention, the '10 regulations will be here before it would hit the shelves.

Understood, but Husky and Stihl both have comparable models of 50 and 55-60cc saws. Must be their huge market share that allows them to have a broader model lineup.

Yes, don't forget the 656. I weighed the pros and cons of the 5100, 6400, 357XP and 361 and ended up purchasing the 656. Considering the price, it was by far the best value for me.

I really think Dolmar missed a great opportunity by not introducing a 60cc saw based upon the 5100 powerhead. The smaller 60cc saws seem to offer a significant increase in power with a minimal increase in weight. Frankly, the 656, 357XP, and 361 are light enough to use all day until a larger saw is needed. So, I'm not quite sure why others seem drawn to the 46cc class saws, other than as a bucket saw or the occasional trimming of trees around the yard. Of course, this opinion is based upon my experiences of cutting up to 15 cord of larger oaks this year and my not be applicable to areas made up of smaller, soft woods.

If you're insinuating that the 5100 falls into the 46cc class......I can assure you it's a lot more than "the occasional trimming of trees around the yard saw" or "bucket saw".

98% of what I cut is 8"-18" hardwood.....oak, hickory, locust, ash, maple, cherry, etc....and I'm more than pleased with the performance of the 5100.

I'm still waiting on Troll to do some timed cuts with his 5100/361.....and we'll see if there's this huge difference......I suspect not. :givebeer:

Personally, as long as the saw reliably starts and cuts sharply, I can stand the pain of an extra pound or two. After all, how many guys and gals still cut with monsters of the past? :chainsawguy:

I'm not into that game - sorry......

LOL.....Just the weight game eh?......:givebeer:

If I recall, Thall said the the 5100 could just about hang with the 361......I guess you have a differing impression.....That why some numbers would be interesting to see but no takers, only talkers.....Is your 5100 running 3/8 or .325?

I have them in 20" 3/8 , 18" 3/8 and one in 18" 325 ..........I like the 20" with LGX seems to do a great job.....Im not into cutting only limbs .......If I was it would be the 180 or 401..

Timed cuts?

Anybody in the Northern Virginia/Shenandoah Valley area with a 361?
I've got a well broke in 5100.

I have owned both the 361 and the 5100 at the same time (Sorry, no timed cuts...just opinion). IMO the 361 had a small edge with 20" bars, in full bar cuts. But... 18" bars or less and its a pretty good match. The 5100 hundred is a tenacious little speed demon. Both good saws, but I sold the 361 and now own 2 5100's. I just can't help but think that a 59cc dolmar motor on the 5100 chassis would stand above the 361 and 357, at any comparable bar size.
