wood splitter ????

My wife bought this for me for Christmas and I absolutely love it. It is made by American CLS, it is the AM25HH model. Good quality, nice running machine.

I'm looking at one of thoes and was wondering if it was strong enough for the 6way wedge they make.

I agree with STL, can't go wrong with a super split. I bought mine in November and have never looked back. Sure it might take two hits to go through 30 inch knotty stuff, but other then that, unbelieveable. After a few weeks getting used to it, I now think I can beat any other splitter on the market. Hand's down best ever invented.

A super split is a splitter that runs off flywheels. It has a 1.5 second cycle time. I'll find the post but there was another guy on here you should talk to about it. He bought one and said if it was better then the Timber Wolfe tw-5 that he would keep it and sell the timberwolfe. If it was slower he would sell the Super Splitter. He sold the Timber Wolfe. Only you know what kind of wood you split. You can go to you tube and see a video. You can get a new super splitter for 3k.

There was an article in Sawmill magazine that had a side by side test between the two and the SS prevailed. I'm not saying the TW-5 isn't an impressive machine that has it's place but for my needs....1/2 the price and faster?

I just bought a new Split Rite. This splitter is awesome! It is made by Green Manufacturing and Kevin is a great guy to work with. I have been splitting a bunch of knotted and twisted wood with it this week and no problems. The machine comes with the table grate, log lift, 4 & 6 way wedges, and has a torflex axle so you can tow down the road at highway speeds. All in all the machine is built very well. It was $8995.00. It has a several features that the tw-5 does not have.
1. The torflex axle that alows you to tow at highway speeds. Timberwolf has a solid axle and recomends you not tow above 30 mph.
2. It has a suport kinda like a kick stand on the log lift side to help support the machine when lifting a heavy log.
3. The hitch on the front is removable so you can plug a wheel in that comes with the splittter which allows you to move the splitter around easily. I am able to push mine around the shop by hand. It also has a hitch at the other end so you can hook up to a four wheeler or something to move it around.
4. I was able to get mine painted the color I wanted and they engraved my company name on my splitter.
I feel if you were to see one of these splitters in person you would be very impressed.

Need a rec on a good, solid gas woodsplitter for about 6-8 cord/yr for home use. It's got to be reliable and strong - we have some seriously hard wood up here, lots of knots and pretty big, so a vertical/horizontal would be best for handling the small and the big stuff. Service is tricky b/c we're in a rural area, and I'd like one that I can haul around our property pretty easily either by hand or hitching up to our tractor. Most of our land isn't accessible by truck.

Any suggestions? Budget is definitely an issue - looking for around $1000-1500. I've looked at used, haven't seen anything that fits the bill.

I tried yesterday and the computer sat there saying it was uploading for like an hour and a half. Then it said upload failed. I tried again and same thing. I guess I need some 12 year old kid to show me how to use the computer.

I'd like to have a TW-5 $7k or the super coool looking Split Rite for $9k too ... but can't justify the $$$$ as I'm splitting less than 8 cords a season. I'll eventually end up with a used TW-5 when the right deal comes along.

if you've got the $$$$ budgeted ... TW-5 is the way to go.

best bang for the $$$ still belongs to Speeco (TSC) 35ton w/12.5hp, 5in cyl, Slow..16 second cycle times due to 16gpm pump. but for folks doing under 10 cords a years... it's well worth looking at. real tonage is closer to 25tons and will bust thru most anything you'd care to throw at it. 35 ton speeco splitters get rave reviews!!!

Called on the Rayco, NICE machine, but $6-6.5k plus $1-1.5k shipping.
I looked at the Speeco/Huskee machines. I was not impressed at all with the build quality. Not for that money.
Iron and Oak seem like nice machines, but I have to drive 100 miles North and hope they have one in stock to see them. And I think they are trying to price with TW.
TW builds a KILLER machine but I think they are pricing themselves out.
Spliteaze didn't do much for me, seems about the same as the Speeco's. Maybe better, but priced a bit higher.
Splitrite, nice machine, but high on price as well.
Here's where things get interesting. I've been hearing you guys brag up these American CLS splitters. On of you even sent me a pricing link, Thank you again! I couldn't find a dealer. I send off an e-mail Thurs night. Got a reply Fri. morning! They wanted to discuss my needs on the phone, asked for my number and a good time to call. 10am Saturday I am on the phone with owner! We talked a good hour about what I thought I wanted, why and I why I didn't like this option and so on.
I wanted, and still do, a 25HH without the pans, same as Splittah's. 10 second ccle time, option for the fourway etc.
He is trying to encourage me to go with the 24HH, 13gpm pump and the Honda. Now this man could easily try and sell me on a higher priced machine. Even after hearing my needs and wants, he still sugested this machine.
TODAY I got another e-mail, prices with the options and a shipping price.
I am not saying I am going to buy it, right now it is in the lead. But this has been without a doubt THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE I have come across in a VERY long time! They sure gave me a huge boost of cofidence in their company.

yup that happened to me the first time i didn't know what to do. Go to Google u have to save it to you comp fist then download it o something idk i have only done it 1 time and then other propel just do it.

mine is 13GPM and a 5.5 Honda.it is an excellent machine.i highly recommend it.if you are just splitting for yourself and not going into selling a lot of firewood,it's more than you will ever need.mine even has the 4 way.love it!

goes for a long time on a tank of gas.before i got this i was borrowing my buddies Husky 22 ton.seems like i had to put gas in it every 15 minutes.this American goes for almost a full cord.

I have the Am25HH with the pans and it is a real back and time saver not to have to bend over and pick up every piece from the ground after you get done splitting it. I have split a lot of wood with and without the pans and I would definitely not go without again given a choice. Try splitting for a day without one on someones elses machine and you won't need further convincing. In order to get the pans on my unit, I also had to get the extended tongue but that makes the splitter a lot easier to manuver, especially when backing up. Hope this helps.

Ram cycle time means little if you're spending all your time picking up and resplitting chunks.
