Its kinda funny how we Minnesotans divide up our state: anything north of the Twin Cities is "north". Anything south is "south".

If you draw an X on a map from each corner, where the lines cross you'll be within a few miles of me. But I'm in the "north". If I'm "north", what about Orr and Ray?

Hey, you guys should know by now that Minnesota is a segregated state with some pretty clear boundaries that have only blurred slightly in nearly 150years.

Dang, can't find my map. Anyway, you follow the highways, but the Cities are an exception to the rule because you have those Ukranians and stuff that you don't find out in the wild.

So, if you live south of I-94 you are probably of German descent. North of 94 but west of 71, you are probably Norwegian or Swede. East of 71 you are probably Swede or Finn.

I grew up 40 miles NE of Moorhead, MSUM alum.

I live south of I-94 near the South Dakota border, and I am fourth generation full blooded German. However, I am surrounded by Norwegians and Swedes. Heck, Madison, which is about 30 miles south, claims to be the lutefisk capitol of the country, and the Germans sure didn't come up with that crap.

My dad and my mother's dad used argue about whether the Minnesota River divided the state North/South or Eas/West. I guess my dad won that one though, since my grandpa died before the argument got settled.

Well, don't know if i qualify for this thread, as i'm not from, or living in MN, but spend a great deal of my free time there. I never tire of the drive on the north shore of Superior, and the inland northland i've only begun exploring, Ely, Virginia, Superior National Forest, etc.

For many years now, about 90% of the spruce, fir and aspen logs and pulp i cut are exported to a sawmill in Grand Marais, and a fiberboard plant in Two Harbors, and occasionally some pulp heads all the way down to Cloquet.

I live 15 miles into Ontario a mile off hwy 61, and have been logging on a 1200 acre block 10 miles from the border right on "61". Been working that block for the last 13 years, with a couple away to clean up 400 acres of blowdown at my home property. Figure i've got another 3-4 years there, then it'll be prime hunting country for the next 60 years.

Karlstad is 30 miles south of Canada and 30 miles East of North Dakota.

I remember an old map that gave a Minneapolis resident's view of Minnesota. Everything was in great detail from the Twin Cities south, but North of St. Cloud it became the "Northwest Territory". We are now called "Outstate MN", which sounds a lot like "outhouse" if you ask me.

Wouldn't trade living in the big city for anything, though.

Big Swede town up here. 1/2 Swedish and about 1/2 Polish. The other half are the "riff raff"

I am about 3 miles from Santiago,MN and about 7 miles from Becker,MN. out in the country. I live in Santiago Township.
