It's simple. I have CAD. I really don't want to be here, but I'm addicted and can't help myself.

Seriously now. I've had many hobbies and interests. Having more than a touch I'm sure of OCD causes me to go overboard with most everything I get serious about. A few years ago, I had more than 10K invested in photography equipment. Most of that's been sold and is gone now. I used to have a water-cooled computer. I burnt out on that too. I was into fast quads for probably 10 years. My Banshee was built for dune racing. Sold that about 4 years ago too. Not enough time any more for the trips.

Chainsaws. Why chainsaws? Well, I love anything mechanical. Combine that with the inability to leave anything stock and, well...you have CAD, lol. Sure, I'd rather have a collection of 4x4 trucks, or 68 Camaros and 63 vettes, and a CTS-V for a daily driver. But chainsaws are a relatively cheap substitute. Combine that with the limited success I've had with porting, the group of friends I've made, and you start to get the picture.

But why am I on here all day alongside my work? It helps break up the monotany of the job. I get to interact with people, I am an extravert by the way:) Bet you didn't know that! I don't know. I'm trying to figure it out while I type. Why am I on here so much? Oh it helps that some respect my opinion a little. Of course, others loathe it. I can handle that.

I've stuck with this hobby probably longer and more seriously than most things I've played with. I guess I've stuck with this one long enough to at least have a clue what's going on(Lakeside helps keep my facts straight for me:clap:), and find satisfaction in passing that along and helping others. Making a few bucks here and there certainly helps pay for the addiction.

A couple more things. I enjoy photograph, web surfing, information mining on the web, parts shopping. I like short term projects that I can see come together in a short period of time. Remember that ADD thing lots of us probably have:) See, I get to do all of things as a part of AS. I really brings it all together for me.

Bottom line...chainsaws are cool little machines that I can tinker with and modify to my content. I can share that with others that appreciate it and have a commoradre with guys of like mind and intersts.

Personally, I've learned a ton from this site. Before I heard of AS, my dad would buy a Craftsman saw from Sears, we would kill it and have them fix it until the warranty ran out.
As a testament to how far I've come since becoming an AS member, today I bought a loop of RSC for my rebuilt Husky 55 (learned how to the topend rebuild from AS also) put it on, and was disappointed that the fresh rsc didn't cut as fast as I remembered. After I thought about it for a bit, my conclusion was that my hand sharpened chains have made a bit of progress after all.
The main thing I've learned on here is how little I know and how much more I have to learn...
In terms of helping people out, reading about other people's problems and the solution to them is good information in case I need to solve that problem for myself.

Fish look at all the cool titles you get from being here helping like....instein

Fish... some questions are better left unanswered... because.. what if the answer is that we're a lowly bunch of social misfits with no lives, whose only sad sustainable social contact is though the screen...??

Why are we here?????

Cause it's fun to shoot the shlt with friends and maybe help someone out along the way. ;)

A lot of this useless knowledge was given to me and I guess it's kinda my job to pass it on for someone else.

I'm sure you don't hear it enough, but you guys who know your stuff really help us that don't - THANKS to all of you.

The net is awesome for this, no matter what your in to.

Because it's chainsaws and social networking, two very powerful and primal forces in human nature. Now I just need to meet a woman who likes saws as much as I do and life will be harmonious.

ha ha ha, good luck dude, and if you do, she will be hairier then you!! And will be able to beat you in an arm wrestle. I'm just lucky enough, that my wife mostly puts up with it.

Not many folks around here the chat about saws in sandpoint Idaho, so this is my alternative way to SPEAK OUT and learn from all you great members that make this site so interesting. Were Im at, nobody is into chainsaws that much so they think Im a freak show, but this site allows my to realize that I am a normal person---but with CAD:dizzy:

I come on here to talk to like minded people with a passion for saws and the outdoor life.
I cant do it socially here. I know very few people who run saws, those that do have no interest in them outside the fact that they are a tool and anything will do if its cheap.
I couldnt ask a workmate if he wants a bit of fun cutting at the w/e cos i will get odd looks. Folks think i`m a lunatic for running saws anyway. They want wood but dont want to work for it.
The last time a group of us were asked to clear some trees by a workmate, it turned out i was the only one with a chainsaw of any description, and others turned up with bow saws and a couple of blunt hatchets:confused:
No GTG`s here. No interest.
I`ve learnt a lot on here from safety advice to saw rebuilds.

Cheers.Long may it continue.

hyper focus

I have a lot of fun on this site, and like most, I've learned a lot. It seems to be populated by people I have things in common with. (yeah, even you *Husky/Ford guys lol) Folks on this site seem to not only like chainsaws but share other intrests I have. Dogs, cars, guns, beer to name a few. Few of my friends ever get behind a hobby like I do, so it's a blessing to find other who do. While my knowledge of chainsaws is currently limited, I try and help others out in areas I can. My motivation for helping anyone is that I feel it's the right thing to do and because so many have people have helped me. Bringing yet anothe saw howe gets little positive reaction from anyone but the people on this site. The social networking was not something I expected to find but it's great.

Fish I think it is because you have issues of insecurity and helping :newbie: gives you a boost of self confidence jmo. Sometimes someone more capable butts in and bursts you bubble and you learn something from it but what do I know I am still trying to figure out how you doubled your money by dismantling a new stihl and selling on the bay lol:cheers:

why i'm here

i'm here because i get in head over heals on new stuff,,, 1st it was the corvettes, then i got into antique mantle clocks, and american flyer trains,, woodstoves & firewood, which led me to chainsaws,,,,, i did almost all my firewood cutting with electric chainsaws, but it limited teh size of teh wood i got,, i found this forum from teh woodstove forum, and of all the groups and forums i belonged to, this one had the most useful info (for me) then any of teh others,,,,so, i still have to put teh running gear in the 56 vette, have an old ansonia clock to rebush,, and a bunch of flyer trains to repair for customers, but when it comes to having folks to "share the project" with, this forum is tops,,
thanks again to everyone who helped me get teh saws running, and understanding why they do,,,,,,,,,
