Sounds like you had a problem motor, not the norm for sure and any manufacturer is capable of putting out a dog....That does suck to hear though!

My kids have ridden ours for 4-5 hours at a time, non stop/wide open, motor never misses a beat (now if I could only keep the rest of the kart together) doesn't use oil and almost thinks fuel isn't required.

Did you call Subaru and/or take it to a certified service center?.....Motor should have been warrantied for 2 years and surely they would stand behind a motor performing that poorly.

You are correct there is a dud no matter who made it every now and then!
And no I did not take it in , I should have but dont have a place close and just didnt want to deal with the warranty run around, If you know what I mean!

I know how ya feel....My mistake though....Subaru actually warranties the motors for 3 years not 2 so you may still have time to get it fixed or replaced.

Robin/Subaru/Fuji is a proud co. and from what I heard, any problems with their small engines are dealt with promptly.

Way to go Joat. Just goes to show people make all the differance in the world.

If you get that thing back together and she doesn't run like it should you send me that huzzy. Hell, high water or blizzard I'll get it right and your bill will be a big $O.OO That 30% raise I got from Belgian will more than cover my costs, hahahahaha

Tommie,

Well, the Black Sheep from the Black Forest is stihl down. I put it together tonight, threw in mix, and I got a pop on the second pull. I can get it started, but any air or throttle will kill it. Air filter is clean and mix about six weeks old (Ultra). It behaves the same without the air filter in place. Throttle and chokes seem to operate properly. If I leave it chocked, it run for about two seconds and dies from fuel starvation. I ran the idle screw in, backed off two full turns. I've tried it most everywhere from 1 1/2 to 3 turns out.

Clueless and trimmerless, but weeds galore,

Joat

Joat, please don't take this the wrong way, but I have to suggest something here.

You've run non-stihl stuff for a long time...is it possible that you're just expecting too much?

:D

.

Woodrow,

Well, well. You've solved it. We can all go home now.

FatGuy, turn out the light.

Joat, turn it back down onto it's seat, then open it 2 full turns.(I know you know this) Try opening(couterclockwise) it a little more trying out the throttle with each turn and see if that helps.

Robin/Subaru/Fuji is a proud co. and from what I heard, any problems with their small engines are dealt with promptly.

A year ago I got a letter from Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru), saying there was an issue with the wheel bearings in my Outback, and that they would warrant them for 80K miles. Yesterday I took it to the dealer where I bought it, with 79,940 miles, asking him to check the bearings. I mentioned th eletter, but also that I no longer have it, he said he'd check.

New right rear "hub assembly" (modern car-speak for 'wheel bearing,'), tighten parking brake, inspect right front caliper for uneven actuation.

Total bill: $23.78 including tax. I bought a sixpack of oil filters with drain plug washers while I was there. Figgs in Topeka, I will buy from them again.

I mention this because I believe it is worthwhile to try to resolve an issue, the experience of the guy with the 290 in the other thread notwithstanding. Good luck.

Fastcast - out of curiosity what OS do you use if you don't like Microsoft OS's?

Oh, I use Windows..We do have a Dell laptop. :dizzy:

My work computers and our main family computer are all Macs running OSX.

It's unanimous in our house, even the kids don't like the Dell running Windows. Even though there's more "games" available for it. The wife uses PC/Windows all day at work and has nothing good to say about them either. :censored:

burp.....:kilt::kilt:

Why is it that some folks don't listen to people who do have experience in the field....;)

Probably because it all depends on the field you're standing in....Why do some professional loggers choose Stihl saws over Husky and others prefer Husky? Why do some contractors prefer Ford trucks over GMC and others Prefer GMC, Toyota etc?

I guess because everyone has different expectations and experiences and base their opinions accordingly.

If we all liked the samething, how boring the world would be and anyway what would we have to argue about?

We'd all look and act like these guys. :kilt: :kilt: :kilt: :kilt:

Tommy, are you seriously surprised that a 2-stroke is more powerful than a similar-sized 4-stroke? As my former boss used to say, "That's not rocket scientry."

In addition, go back to my original post and re-read the part where I talked about max-power rpm vs. max operating rpm. Then go back and correct yourself.

Tommy, that Kawi is one of the finest is no real trade secret. And no offense, but if you took off your orange-and-gray colored sunglasses, you'd see that, for the most part, stihl OPE is very, very, very...

...average.

So stihl is the Chevrolet of OPE. Great name recognition, but very average wares. So what? (And Husqvarna still outsells them, by a HUGE margin, and you know it.) We've been through this before...VW outsells their sibling Bentley, but I don't think you'll find many people saying VW is 'better.' They're just cheaper.

Dismissed.

Uhhhhhhhhhh Woodie where are you getting your information from. Seems Kawi themselves don't claim 1.6HP from their 26.3cc engine, they covert 26.3cc over to 1.6 cu.in. I did notice alot of the sellers are claiming 1.6HP but I can't find anywhere where Kawi themselves claim that. Please find me that page from Kawi with those claims.

As for the rest of your post there I can't help but grin. While your doing the homework on the Kawi find me one webpage in which Husqvarna themselves claim to be the N0.1 seller in anything. Not largest but seller.

Also your knocking Chevrolet. Let me reply with two words, Twin I-Beam. Do those two words ring a bell with you, the greatest invention ever for tire sales, hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Oh but I have, in that very field in the pic above and the 100 left with it's tail between it's legs..... that’s why I can say such things without fear. ;)

Truth is they are pretty close, but the Kawi was on top and the Stihl left with some boobys tattooed on it's back.

I don't know...you tell me. :)
