I guess I could go to one of the Stihl dealer bashing threads and post. There are so many, I didn't know how to decide, so, here's a new thread.

Reference thread:
I have an FS80 I bought during the summer of 01. It's hasn't really been running too good for quite some time. It usually starts and idles fine. It "stumbles" on acceleration. When warm, it seems to get worse. Sometimes, it won't even rev close to it's potential.

Last spring, I took it apart and could find no problem. New plug, new fuel filter, carb looked good, no leaks I could see. Late in the fall, I took it in for service. They put in a new plug, new fuel filter, cleaned the card, looked for leaks, etc. It appeared to be a bit better, but I only used it twice before season end.

This spring, it was running worse than ever. On April 3rd, I lost my patience (good thing I'm not a real doc) and took it back for service. New this, new that, tried a new carb, and still wasn't running right. Tonight, the tech found the problem.

Any takers?

Joat

Now, a quick summary:

FS80 purchased in July of 2001.

Hasn't run great in years.

Last fall, I took apart and couldn't find a problem.

Last fall, Stihl 'tech' couldn't find a problems and of course, replaced all the parts I'd replace a few weeks earlier.

On April 3, 2009, I took the ill FS80 to the local Stihl 'tech'.

On April 23, 2009, the Stihl 'tech' said he'd located the problem, a cracked carb spacer flange.

On May 4, 2009, I am stihl waiting on parts. I told the Stihl 'tech' to cancel the parts, put the trimmer in a box and I'd be in to 'settle up' with him.

Help me determine a replacement trimmer to do lawn trimming and light brush clearing.

Oh, keep an eye out for a fire sale on my remaining Stihl 'equipment',

Joat

Your not waiting on parts, your waiting for that dealer to get up off his azz and order those parts. I just checked Mid-Atlantic Stihl in NC and they have both flanges in stock and both cost a whopping $3.05. Someone had to tell ya Joat, us being buds I figured it would be easier coming from me,LOLOL

Tommie,

What's the point of having 34,539,556 dealers if you can't get a simple trimmer fixed?

Most landscapers in my area run echo trimmers. I have had very good luck with both Redmax and Shindaiwa but I have heard of some problems with the new EPA approved Shindaiwa’s. Perhaps your local Stihl dealer is a republican and you can work out a deal on an fs110 using the 80 as a trade. They are supposed to be a most excellent trimmer and can use any of the KOMBI attachments. I have had zero problems with my FS130r but mine lacks good throttle control and the sparkplug is honkin expensive. Good luck with your search.

Open up your high side screw a tad and throttle responce will be much better, they ship those units running lean and after break in they need alittle more fuel. Yup those spark plugs are costly.

Joat, you are selling all of your Stihl equipment because of a cracked carb spacer flange on your FS80 ????:rolleyes:

I think you are up for a serious councelling session with Dr Roland, please make an appointment with my secretary, Mr Hall. All will be good :givebeer:

Dr Roland while you were out to lunch with that blonde I went ahead and sent Joat a prescription to cure his trimmer problem. Remember that at raise time and remember as well I know your wife's personal home phone. I'll be expecting at least a 20% raise, 10% for solving Joats issue and another 10% for keeping quiet about your dinner dates!!!!,LOLOL

Whaaaaaaattttt....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. :chainsawguy:

I have been using an echo srm-230 pretty much daily 5 days a week for 3 years and only thing I've had to do is spark plug and filter.

Fix it yourself and mailorder the parts and leave the dealers to push new equipment to others in order to make a buck... If you truly would like to rid yourself of that Stihl, a honda 4 stroke is pretty nice and is fuel efficient/quiet.

sthil trashed

if u got 026 in dumpster let me know or if its flying from shead toscrap pile le t me know.
