I really don't have nothing against Stihl as a saw(they're great saws) or the dealers on here, but the Stihl dealer network reminds me of Subway sandwiches network. Subway will sell you a business after you do all the foot work checking out the area as a potential business area and than Subway will open one up right down the street from you which you have to compete with. We had four Stihl dealers locally and now that John Deere has dropped their saws(Effco which was a dam good saw) and are selling Stihl now all the JD dealers are Stihl dealers(talk about cut throat).
 
I really don't have nothing against Stihl as a saw(they're great saws) or the dealers on here, but the Stihl dealer network reminds me of Subway sandwiches network. They decided to stay with Echo instead of switching to Stihl. Its their choice to do so. JD has to sign up and follow the rules like any other Stihl dealer. Those that don't want to don't have to do anything and many have choosen not to sell the Stihl line up. So where is this cut throating your talking about?

The saw companies are fighting the internet instead of using it to their advantage.

The internet is the future. Internet companies like Bailey's will thrive.

Local Ma and Pa shops will not go away, but in order to survive, they'll have to excel at service and repairs instead of relying on monopolistic sales practices.

Certain saw companies would GAIN market share if they made parts available online. I love my Efco saws (both of which I purchased online), but probably won't buy another Efco because parts are a hassle to obtain. If Efco made all parts available online, I would definitely continue buying Efcos.

When I needed a simple torx muffler screw for my Stihl, I had to take a day off from work and make a 4 hour round trip to the closest Stihl dealer. The dealer didn't have the muffler screw in stock, so I had to drive to yet another town, where that dealer also did not have the muffler screw in stock, however, he pulled a screw from a used saw. That used muffler screw cost me about $150 when you count the value of my time and transportation costs. Insane ! ! ! !

(Grande Dog, if you are reading this, you might consider adding a selection of torx screws to your catalog).

Why, oh why, can't I order Stihl parts online and have them delivered to my door ? ? ? It would only enhance my loyalty for the Stihl brand.

I do take advantage of the Stihl parts that are available from Baileys. Even if the the price is the same as OEM or even a little more than OEM, the convenience of online ordering and delivery to my door makes Baileys the better choice for me.

Thats called a free market. Competition is a great thing. You made it sound in your other post that all JD dealers are now all Stihl dealers, not true.

I for one love competiton. Hell I wouldn't care if Stihl put another dealer down the street from us. Hell they did put one about 6 miles from us. We took care of him in less than a year and a half, we bankrupted his azz. Thats how you play ball. There's plenty of room for everyone.

Holds on now, hell I'm just jawing like you, no temper here. I'm just pointing out the facts, nothing more. That thing with Husky and Wise though, that I find kinda odd. That is cut throating 100% when some can sell online and some can't. Husqvarna doesn't seem to be playing fair with all its sellers when they stop some like Baileys from selling online and yet they are allowing Wise, whats up with that non-sense??

LOL, not so. We suggest you get your last will written before you come around here selling Stihl, thats all,LOL

Naaaaaaaaaa fact is we got a Stihl dealer about 10 miles from us and beleive it or not we work good together. If he needs something and I got it I let him have it so he doesn't lose a sale or have to order. He treats me in kind and it works out great for the main person, the customer.

Now that low life that was 6 miles from us, he cheated everyone and paid the price. We wouldn't deal with him, he wasn't fit to be in business so we helped put him out of business..

"These policies reflect significant and important changes from Husqvarna's past practice, and will significantly affect the manner in which our retailers sell our products. These changes include limiting the types of Husqvarna products that may be sold over the internet, via catalog or otherwise the mail, and tighter monitoring of the minimum advertised price of such products.

Husqvarna intends to vigorously enforce these policies.Consequences for policy violations may include the withholding of advertising/local market development funds and/or termination of your status as an authorized retailer."

Folks, this is easy. You want a Stihl? Go the the nearest dealer and buy it. Want to get the best deal? Visit all dealers within your comforst zone and let them outbid each other. Oh, you'll end up with a dealer that's lying or going out of business soon if their price is "too good to be true".

You want a Husky? Do the same as the Stihl procedure outlined above. If you feel that supporting local, servicing dealers is not good for you, then search the AS forums and internet for some great low ball price from an on-line mega-retailer.

I wonder if some of you have this much drama in buying milk and bread. After all, 99.99963412% of families spend more on milk and bread than chain saws.

That's ok Thall, we only buy from one of the dealers here becasue they're a great bunch of guys and treat us good. If I lived buy you I would probably be buying from you also.

Hey Jack, I posted a link to a discussion on this EXACT topic that people can read if they want. I don't give a rats ass about Husky's mail order policy for the reasons you mentioned above, but if you think I am obsessing over it you are wrong.

As for "you're sitting around worrying about Husqvarna's saw retailers policies and the enforcement of such" you couldn't be farther from the truth. I remembered seeing it here before and found the link, if you consider that me sitting around worrying than you have greatly mistaken my views about life. I put my fiancee, school, family, pets, friends and everything else above my chainsaw hobby and this website. That's right it is a hobby, not my life.
