There is absolutely no comparison in the power of these two saws. I've owned both. The 346 will walk ALL OVER a 242XP.

What was the weight difference? Did one feel lighter then the other?
Wait what I'm I talking about I swing a 395xp 9 to 10 hours at a time.

This is indeed true.

But if you like bigger stuff, here's my nominations:

New models: 390XP, the worthy successor to the 288, and the 576AT, which is the smoothest saw you'll ever run.

More oldies: 266XP and 268XP to complete the 272 family tree. (Not really complete with out a 162, but they are hard to find.)

I was going to suggest the 576AT as well, as he has a "gap" that it fits into, and it represents the future! :agree2:

The 390xp also fit into a gap in power, but not in cc.......

I now have the Husky 272xp, 372xp, 288xp, 395xp 2100cd and the 3120xp. I have a 262xp on the way (maybe).

I'm coming close to completing my wish list on Huskies. So give me some ideas on what Huskies I should look for next.

Keep in mind I don't like small saws and I want it have a legendary Husky rep.

Banshee,

A NE346XP would do nicely. I 390XP will fill the "GAP" you have in your lineup.

ole joat

Let me be the first to suggest a Husky 339XP. A very distinct design with great balance. You won't find this saw in red also!

Use has noting to do with it.....did you look at it???? Kinda looks like somebody sat it too close to the fire and it started to melt.
I did think they were fugly also, but somehow it's grown on me. Strange design, like an old Stihl 09/010/011/012 body with the odd rear handle and air filter...

I have the little fugly duckling, the 336. The 339xp is actually a tad more powerful. Both look fragile, but are pretty hefty.

It's actually pretty comfortable to use, and it's fun, fun, fun...to run...I've gotten fond of the way the rear handle is cocked back, can you ever get that saw in front of you and work comfortably...up high, where you wouldn't hold a larger saw up like that.

So far I've done mostly carving with mine, and kinda how I plan to use, but for log work. Mine is a very responsive, and a nicely balanced saw to use.

Some people don't like them at all though, and many are somehow disappointed, and if you don't care for it, your not alone. But judge the saw by how it runs, not how it looks.

The other thing about the saw, I noticed a couple weeks ago is that you can actually hold the saw with your left hand on the bottom of the handle pointing the saw straight out in front with the blade sideways. Because the handle bottom is wide and flat you can get great leverage, yet with the handle cocked back it's comfortable to hold with both hands. It is like a sword in that sense...I don't think Husky would recommend using the saw like that, but whatever...lol

It is not a great 1-saw plan though, just my opinion...I wouldn't want to only be able to use it, but...when I do use it the "Fugly Duckling" leaves a smile on my face...:)

346XP NE hands down.

i'm pissed when i run out of fuel or wood to cut with it.you get into a trance and it sucks gettin disrupted

I would say a 390xp would be awesome I got to run Joats 390 at the last gtg and that thing was as strong as my ported 395 and didnt feel like it weighed any more than my 7900. Just an awesome saw especially ported.
