When opening your stove door, don't rip it open like a car or refrigerator door; open it a few inches and wait about 10 seconds then slowly open it-this prevents smoke from entering the room.
I put a mark on the beam of my splitter at 16" that way I know when anything is much over or under that length. Makes for happy customers when all the wood is 16".

The kitty litter buckets work well for kindling...I just rake up all the bits after splitting.
If your cat is excessively lazy like mine, make sure you watch it when it sleeps near the stove. Occasionally they should be flipped, preferably before they start to smoke.
