I didn't think I was ever going to get the previous owner to price that old junk 084 he had sitting in the corner in a box.
When He did finally price it I thought I was never going to get the $$$ saved up. Every time I would start to get close something else would appear that was more pressing than a saw I really didn't NEED.
Finally got the $ and picked it up then the saving thing started all over again for a new OEM piston and cylinder. (and all the "incidentals" that go along with it)

BUT FINALLY!

It saw its first run in the wood today!!!

It isn't as pretty as Brad's, Erick's, or Andre's and DEFINITELY won't run with them;)

But it's MY ugly kid and I love it just the same!LOL

I know it didn't really happen without pics so there are a few.

I will try to get some video if I can find a cameraman for less than union scale.LOL

I want to send out a special thanks to my buddy Erick for needling the p!$$ out of me to stay after it.
Without his good natured teasing, I would have probably given up sometime during this ordeal!!!

It may show some honest wear, but it seems to be a good one. Pretty is as pretty does, sit on a shelf mostly. You won't have to worry about getting that one dirty, more fun that way, enjoy it.

A little "character" doesn't hurt them one bit. I sort of like it. Not too shiny, not to beat up makes them just about perfect to me.

Nothing to be ashamed of there...looks like a good honest saw to me.

Like somebody said the other day..''pretty don't cut wood''

:givebeer:

Man, that makes some of my saws look trashed! Looks mighty good to me!!!
And as RandyMac said! now it is easy to go out and get dirty!!!!!!!

Good deal Mike, I was worried that you took up golf or drag racing . :)

Nice "Biggon" you got there Mike:clap: LOL, When I fist saw the post, I thought to myself, I didn't know Mike was a golfer! :)

Gregg,

I tried that "golf egg knockin'" for a while.
Didn't take long to find out that it wasn't for me!!!

Joe I have no idea of the age on that saw, but will try to do some research.

Thanks for the kind words guys, it means a lot to be recognized by folks who are a lot better at fixin' these old saws than I can ever be.

It might be as ugly as mine. Naw, your's is prettier. Maybe we should have an ugliest 084 thread, I'd win, but it'd be fun! JJuday

Way to go Mike! Looks like a nice saw:clap:

Check your tank vent. If it has the old style grub screws, get rid of them. You'll probably have to install one of the umbrella style valves inside the tank. I believe that's what caused me to loose the topend on my lastest one.

Does the 084 tank need pressure, or am I missing something? I prefer the screws to the umbrella.

I believe the old hose had conformed around the threads of the grub screws. Mine had two grub screws in it. There was no way it could flow near the air that an open hose and umbrella valve will. The umbrella gives almost no resistance, but ensures no leaking fuel, which the grubs can.

I believe the old hose had conformed around the threads of the grub screws. I also prefer the umbrella because it is guaranteed not to leak fuel in any position.

Your right, the umbrella wont leak, but it will cause fuel to spray across the shop when you forget to release the pressure from the tank and pop the fuel line off....:dizzy:
